On balance, I support Bush. But he has done some destructive and stupid things, and this is certainly one of them. As long as he supports the war on terror and remains pro-life I will probably continue to support him. But this is a very bad move, which will weaken his base and lose him votes next year.
Yes, he needs the votes of legal hispanic citizens. But there are other ways to get them. He was already getting them.
I've said before that we are very lucky to be plagued with hispanic illegals in this country instead of the Muslim immigrants that Europe is getting. I think we can survive the hispanic influx. I am far more worried about the smaller numbers of Muslim immigrants. But I still think it's a big mistake to legalize and glorify illegals. It's bad for the country and it's bad for Bush.

If only you were more "sage" in your deliberations...

Well, now I know who I will not be voting for in 2004.
There is not one snowball's chance I will vote for Bush again. It's not even a consideration.
Whoring out the sovereignty of your country for the political gains of a special interest group is worse than getting a blowjob from an intern, in my honest opinion.
Vote Democrat, vote Republican ... what does it matter? We're hosed.
Is anyone really proud to be a member of one of the two status-quo parties anymore?

American citizens not willing to take jobs.(I see a pattern here)
I believe it's now officially become a mantra.
To: dubyaismypresident
Yep this is the best president the Left has had since FDR. He just bit_h slapped conservatives and every unemployed worker in the country.

Pal, if someone offered me enough dough to pick their fruit, I'd chuck this keyboard and put on my overalls. Sure you would..and so would most welfare workers...if they were 'offered enough dough'.
Ain't no job Americans won't do.
Unless they can receive more money on welfare....

How about standing in the frozen food section of the grocery store and hearing an announcement (ad) over the loud speaker IN SPANISH!

Did you listen to the speech? It doesn't sound like you did. He said this program requires these TEMPORARY workers to return to their country when the work is done. IT IS NOT a fast track to citizenship, BUSH MADE THAT CLEAR. He wants STRICTER requirements for citizenship, hence bringing in the people you're talking about. It's THE SKY IS FALLING around here, as usual. It sounds to me like a plan to shine a light in the underground cave of immigration and see who's down there -- again Bush did not run on ANY OTHER immigration platform for this in 2000. So if they were expecting land mines and a million man army on the fence to keep "those people" out then they didn't read the fine lines.

(Exodus 22: 28 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.)
Temporary working permits, or "blue cards," will be issued to temporary workers.
A person can become a temporary worker by:
1. Applying for the permit while living abroad and having a job offer from an American employer, or 2. Applying for the permit while living illegally in the US and having a current job.
The "blue card" will not give the immigrant automatic permanent residency or US citizenship.
Instead the "blue card" holder will have to apply for his "green card" [permanent resident card] using the current immigration laws.

Listening to Sean Hannity...Fox says that these illegal Mexicans are not illegal...I am disgusted by this man.

"I was making $18 hour as a house painter in Michigan... they were paying $2 an hour to illegals for this work in Los Angeles...."
The astounding thing is that anyone should pay $18/hr for the amazingly skilled trade of applying paint to a surface. There are many jobs requiring four-year degrees that pay less.

"Bush could tell a lot more stories about illegal immigrants who have committed horrific crimes than about ones who are serving in the military
"
There are ZERO illegal immigrants serving in the US military. ZERO! The requirements are quite strict, and aliens serving in the military must be legal residents of the United States. They are restricted as to rank and job assignments.
I'm all for immigrants serving in the military. But...it is important to understand that any that do so are LEGAL immigrants, not ILLEGAL!

The problem is the legislation written for this new immigration initiative won't read anything like the speech we just heard. :^(

Bush just changed the definition of amnesty! He is slick.
No, his dishonesty in this regard has been long expected.
