George 41 lost because he made conservatives mad. His policies (ADA for one) are ruining economy. Clinton sounded more conservative. Perception is reality in the minds of the masses.
Ed Gullispie ran Dole's campaign. Dole pandered to the left. Dole was a moderate (liberal in some minds) during Reagan years. Dole lost because he was limp and liberal and CONSERVATIVES SAT OUT.
George 43 AT FIRST pandered to moderate votes as Dole pandered until McCain ALMOST won ticket. McCain lost because George 43 PROMISED conservative platform would be pushed through when he became prez. Conservatives saved GWB's butt.
Memo to Rove and Bush: Liberals will vote Dem come election day. Your attempt to chip at the Dem margins to offset conservatives WILL NOT WORK. Never worked in the past. Some conservatives I know have already decided to sit out 2004. IMO, despite what election polls 11 months out indicate, slim is GWB chances if he continues down this road.
PS. GOP gained in 1994, 96, 98, 2000, and 2002 mainly because conservative talk shows said GOP candidates would be CONSERVATIVE not because traditional libs switched. Some conservatives are waking up and realizing that power lies in Legislative more than Executive. Some conservatives are waking up to realization that conservatives limited Clinton and forced him to be conservative. Maybe it's time for conservatives to force GOP to be conservative.

is this immigration scheme limited to mexicans( and if it is, what does vicente' have on GW)? does it include haitians, nigerians, sudanese, syrian? palestinian? algerian? does it end? let's just abolish borders, after all we live on the same f--in planet.
i don't "get" why we're relinquishing every bit of identity and sovereignty we have.

As to the anecdotal nature of my comments on construction in the Atlanta area, please present facts to the contrary As soon as you post a web source for your contentions in your reply #206.

There are not enough Mexican votes to offset Pres. Bush's loss of his former Republican supporters. I'm mystified
that the reports of giving amnesty to law breakers will gain votes for Bush. He is setting himself up for a humiliating loss this year.

You're not for a total ban on abortion?!? Then you're a TRAITOR to the conservative cause, some conservatives here might be screaming now.
My point is that it is hypocritical of conservatives to be kicking and screaming and condemning Dubya on the one hand and deifying Reagan on the other when Reagan did the EXACT same thing back in 1987. By the definitions of some people here, Reagan was an outright Commie for giving illegals an blanket amnesty, with NO QUESTIONS OR LIMITATIONS such as the ones Dubya proposes.

What's the difference between breaking the law smoking crack and breaking the law by sneaking into the country and using fraudulent documents to get a job? All laws are equally just right?

But in my city I see Hispanics doing things, running businesses, providing services that didn't exist a few months ago.Look at the heavy subsidies paid into cities, implicit & explicit
Are these employers providing health benefits, or just using the local emergency room? Are they getting enterprise zone tax breaks? Subsidized housing for extended families?
Just pointing out that it's not a level playing field.

Then you're a TRAITOR to the conservative cause, some conservatives here might be screaming now. "I never submitted the whole system of my opinion to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go at all."
Thomas Jefferson in a letter to Francis Hopkinson in 1789.

The stupid PC police, and Ted Kennedy in particular made damn sure that we open our boarders to people of different race/color/religion. That demand in itself helped destroy the fabric of America, as we know it. If we continue down this road, we are going to keep diluting this society until we are the minority.
We need to actively train our own underclass instead of importing low wage employee to shut them out of job opportunities. American need more money for subsistant living than third world country immigrants (legal or illegal).
To: Jack Black
There is a MAJOR, MAJOR different between the LP position on immigration and what Bush is doing. Libertarians favor expanded LEGAL immigration and a massive crackdown on ILLEGAL immigration. If you want to become a citizen, fine...Just come through the front door! I say if someone wants to become an American, and are willing to undergo several background/reference checks, then swear an oath of loyalty to the country, we should welcome them with open arms. Criminals and terrorists however do NOT want to do this, and they must be stopped with force.
Law abiding immigrants should be welcomed.
Illegal immigrants should have massive penalties.

Giving illegal aliens these benefits only assures us that they are going to pour into this country at faster rates. And just what benefit is that...paying a $1500 fine for breaking the immigration law...you consider that a benefit? And any illegal currently in the US who does not apply for the guest worker program by the deadline will not be eligible for anything but deportation. What they are trying to do is clear up the backlog at the INS so that they can concentrate on the criminal element amongst the illegals, namely those that will NOT apply for this program. Yes, there is an extradition problem with Mexico, but that has more to do with the death penalty than illegal immigration and if we can clear up some of the backlog at INS, and create a database with the info provided by the illegals during registration for this program (fingerprints, photos) that will make it easier to catch those that commit crimes, we will be better off.

Of course Thomas Jefferson was the founder of the modern-day DEMOCRATIC party :-).
To: medscribe
Many people also do not know that Jefferson, upon taking office as President, immediately began purging office-holders that were not in HIS party. Individual letters can not always be taken at face value.

He is setting himself up for a humiliating loss this year. I'm hoping its a trick of some sort to stir the Rat pot right before the caucuses/primaries. Can you imagine Howard Dean spewing his opinion on this issue?
The other thing I'm hoping is that it is just a trial balloon, and will get shot down by everybody. Bush gets to say, "I tried," and blame opposition from both left and right as the reason that the status quo is still in effect.
I've been in favor of regulating "guest workers" rather than just continuing the existing system, but the details of this program really shock me. The certification that employers must provide to employ Mexicans (that no Americans would take the jobs) is so thin, you can see through it. All an employer has to do is offer jobs at seven bucks an hour, say that no Americans would take them, then get green cards for Mexicans who live 20 to a single house, to live on that wage. The same employers that would export our jobs to India would jump at that.
This makes my job of trying to convince my new wife's relatives to vote Republican even harder. Even though the Rats are against them on nearly every social issue, they still insist that "Republicans are only for the rich." How else do we explain some of the provisions of this proposed bill?

What time? Can I watch his speech over ther internet on CSPAN?

Ah yes, Gingrich.....one of the last principled R's in the House. I loved the guy, still do. He was successfully vilified by the left. However, Tom Delay does measure up to Gingrich but he too is beginning to cave on principal from time to time because of strong-armed tactics coming from a popular President.
I'd love to see all Republicans get on the same page with respect to conservative ideas/agenda once in my life. With the current resident at the White House and his big-government agenda, I'm not holding my breath.
Who is running on the Constitionalist ticket this year??????????? Anyone?????
