Wires in jacket snag Delta flight

HEBRON, Ky. - A woman with a jacket designed to heat up like an electric blanket ended up cooling her heels in Paris yesterday when jittery airport officials yanked her from her flight. The woman was bounced from a Paris-to-Cincinnati flight just before it left France because of suspicious wires poking out of her leather jacket.

It turned out that the motorcycle jacket was designed with wires to heat up and keep the wearer warm, officials said.

As an additional precaution, all passengers and their luggage were rescreened when Delta Flight 43 landed in Cincinnati.

While I was in Atlanta over Christmas, my mom gave me her old DVD player, and I purchased a large face alarm clock witht the big bells on top. I didn't dare put those in my luggage, that was just asking for trouble. I had my sister ship them to me.

Now we have to evaluate every little bit of metal/unusual items before we pack.

Think I would have packed that bad boy on check in. However, I stupidly had a pocket knife in my purse and remembered it right before the security check on a trip from DC to Maine. Fortunately there was a Styrofoam cup with lid on it on a table nearby and I planted it in there.

Sounds like she was travelling to go on a motorcycle tour. If so, she probably didn't check any luggage--kinda hard to carry a big suitcase on a bike.

Didn't think of that! However, with the word out that a female might be thinking of taking a plane down (along with various other threats) I don't think that a wired jacket would have been my choice of wardrobe to wear on the plane. If I wanted to use it at the destination, I would have gotten there awfully early and put it in one of their checked boxes. They don't talk about her battery hookup so where do you figure that was, at the destination, maybe?

Yeah, an alarm clock with bells on the top screams terrorism, you'd been singled out for sure.

... and I thought I was worried about my luggage being screened when coming back from Florida ... carring on an alligator's head I purchased from a tourist shop by St. Augustine. Luckily I got a knife cutlery set for Christmas down there so I had it all shipped back home.

Let's face facts, there are idiots that can override idiot-proof systems such as TSA guidelines and TV programs that s l 0 w l y state points in 3rd grade language. IMO, lady was a dolt that either never thought, or believed the rules did not apply to her.

Sully777, many high-quality touring motorcycles are equipped with heated handgrips. Coupled with a heated jacket/vest, pants, and socks, you can ride in complete comfort in very frigid weather. The heated garments run on electricity generated by the motorcycle.

Hopefully this will save you from further embarrassment.
