"The New Colossus"
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land, Here at our sea-washed, sunset-gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose fame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome, her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin-cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she, With silent lips. "GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR, YOUR HUDDLED MASSES YEARNING TO BREATHE FREE, THE WRETCHED REFUSE OF YOUR TEEMING SHORE; SEND THESE, THE HOMELESS, TEMPEST-TOST TO ME, I LIFT MY LAMP BESIDE THE GOLDEN DOOR!" November 2, 1883
Emma Lazarus (1849-1887)
People will also come to America because they have a dream of flying airplanes into buildings and putting anthrax in the mail. 9/11 was an immigration problem. The free-for-all at the borders must end or we are finished. No eloquent words or ideals with ever change that.

Teddy Roosevelt couldn't have said it better.
I think I will adopt that for my tagline.
September 11 was not an immigration problem. It was a criminal conspiricy problem that we missed with our lack of intellegence efforts decimated over the 8 years of clintonistic policy. It was an act of war perpetrated on the American public! The fact that we stand for freedom, liberty, and soverignty makes us vulnerable to these type of criminal acts. Why would we shut down all immigration for the criminal acts of 19 hi-jackers. Legal immigration acounts for hundreds of thousands of participants and contributors to our capitalistic system. If we could just one day find a way to document and include all of the illegal immigration, we may finally be on the road to controlling and identifying how our border immigration policies contribute to the problem or help solve the problem of our time.....terrorism....domestic or foriegn sponsored.
Thanks for the post!
This now describes the taxpayers.
Legalized and comprised of people who wanted to BE Americans not something hyphenated looking to live where the plumbing was indoors.
It's the Statue of Liberty, not the Statue of immigration.
Sir...please take a moment or two to read some of my post over time. I have no problem with your position. So many people jump to the legal vs. illegal issue. For myself, I have decided that they will come regardless of the label or status that you or the government puts on them. They yern to be free....so since our current laws do not stop illegal immigration, I believe we need to reform our current immigration policy to deal with the influx of immigrants who will come here regardless of how you classify them. They are human being seeking a better life, a better existance, free from the oppression of whatever country they are leaving. Go back and read the enscription on the statue of liberty....says nothing about illegal or legal...it says send them to me and I will make a nation out of the rest of the worlds rejects and discarded people.
We must continue the dialogue in order to solve this immigration issue, so I will continue to contribute what I feel is right in my heart.
Thanks for the post!

Oh man, this would make a great tag line.
Exactly Joe!!! and it is the image of liberty and freedom that all immigrants seek regardless of what laws you write to classify them as illegal or legal. Joe, do you think the Native Americans had immigration laws that we violated when european settlers landed and settled in the North American Continent? Probably not because they were immigatants too. Most of the inhabitants of this continent migrated from one area to the next depending on the food source. Why not reform the immigration laws that do not work now to help solve this problem of illegal immigration. The laws are something we can change! The fact that they are going to immigrate to the country either way, we can not change. We can only react in a way that contributes to the problem or helps solve the problem. Think we need more gun laws to solve the gun violence in America....I don't think so...So why write more laws to stop illegal immigration when the people who immigrate don't care about the law you just wrote because their life is dependent on immigrating and starting a new life in America.
Thanks for the post!
With all respect, we are a nation of laws. Laws that should be respect by those that have a desire to come to our home. Those that do not repect our laws, should be given no respect.
"...They are human being seeking a better life, a better existance, free from the oppression of whatever country they are leaving..."
There is no 'oppression' in Mexico. They are economic refugees fleeing their homeland rather than staying there and reforming it. Years of corruption engendered by political cronyism combined with government ownership of vital industries only exacerbates the still-dragging Mexican economy.
The net result of this uncontrolled immigration is they are making the United States more like the country that they left.
Further, America is being used as a politico-economic safety valve that is ultimately serving to remove any possibility of any reform from whence they came.
Any immigration agent will tell you that it is indeed possible to control immigration, but border patrol is not being given sufficient resources to control our borders for reasons of political expediency.
If the rest of the world has truly limited government and success determined by achievement rather than cronyism, immigrating to the United States would not be necessary.
That is what must be encouraged, for the good of all.
Food for thought. Since you don't seem to differentiate between legal or illegal I am wondering how many people you feel the US should welcome. It's a big world. Where would you draw the line?
Sometimes I wished 150 million would enter in one week, so maybe the rest of this country would wake up. Slow deaths are so painful.
And officials will be setting aside two and three classrooms in about five schools to teach the children in their Hmong language. But again, they don't know if this will work because THEY DONT KNOW HOW MANY WILL BE COMING!
Of course, there are bigger things to worry about, since these people have among them the very diseased, very old and mentally ill. This was noted by the "discovery team" of libs who went over to the refugee camp to take a look-see.
Maybe we will be getting that 150 million.... What a world, what a world.
How fast will they all be sucking at the welfare/SS teat??
Very quickly. These people are in terrible shape, and I don't know how we can absorb them. It's crazy.
Legal or illegal, people will come to America because they have a dream of being free. It is up to us to find a way to make them a legal part of the system.
No! The law is already in place unfortunately it is not enforced. Why do we need to find a way to make legal part of the system? Illegal is Illegal?
As far as the illegals who are criminals, well we have a judicial system that will take care of them, and those are the ones who we deport or lock up and make them work under the federal prison system (God forbid)
No! In Los Angeles they have what they call special order 40. Police officers are not allowed to detain and deport known gang members who have been deported and have come back after being deported.
By finding a solution that allows you to identify them first and integrate them into the system, you can now hold them more accountable. They can pay taxes....
No! After identification, they should be deported. Illegal is illegal.
Any effort to withdraw from the system by them gives reason to send them back to where they came from....if you don't identify them how are you going to track them. Are you going to start running a police state where everyone will have to have their papers comrade.
They dont have papers in the first place. Please see my section on special order 40.
Citizens do.
I hope not...we need more payees not more collectors. I say make the illegals...legal and make them pay taxes and SS and if we like the effort they have made over the next 10 years then we can decide if their desire to be a citizen of the greatest country ever warrents citizenship. Anything other than that we have to increase our taxes or repeal the bush tax cut in order to arrest, incarcerate, and deport the illegals just so they can hang out at the border and wait to come back across. Then we can raise taxes again....etc....etc...vicious cycle. Make them legal, contributing factors who now are only one small step closer to their dream....Now don't read into what I said...I did not say give them amnesty or SS!
We already have LEGAL CITIZENSHIPT LAWS.
No, the onus is on them...
Okay, your right! we must demand that they take full responsibility for their actions and ask them to leave immediately on their own accord. I for one expect this problem to be solved with NO additional spending of American tax dollars. If they won't leave well I guess that all of the immigration service employees who have not been doing their job will have no problem working for free to correct this problem that they did not keep from happening.
Perhaps the onus is really on us to come up with a immigration policy and laws that goven the policy that works. The end result would be a system that recognized the current immigration issue (legal and illegal) that now exist and would provide a solution that would possibly have them paying for the solution and the implementation of that solution. Or perhaps that is just too much to ask for.
No! The law is already in place, unfortunately it is not enforced and we are already paying taxes for this.
Exit strategy....don't spend all of the tax dollars chasing, identifying, arresting, incarcerating, and deporting the very people who may want to contribute to the solution of the problem. Your position that ALL illegal immigrants are here to look just for freebies is not defensable. It is only your assumption. Give us some numbers.....I'm sure you know exactly how may illegal immigrants out of the 8 million show up each and every day for welfare checks, food stamps, hospital treatment, and etc. People immigrate here because in their heart they want to be free and have a better chance and opportunity to live their lives. Sure there are some free loaders....we got them kind who are born here and never had to cross a river, desert, or ocean. I'd trade everyone of them for 10 illegals who wanted to participate, pay taxes (SS) and prove 10 years down the line that they were American citizens by how they contributed over the last decade, not just because their parents born and raised them and they got some kind of birthright or inheritance coming. Please....
Yes it is defensible! Here are the numbers.

Perhaps some laws are not just or do not really help to solve the problem....we argue that we don't need more gun laws to govern law abiding citizens who own guns, but we are quick to write and increase the laws that address the immigration issues that plague our country right now failing to stop or control immigration (legal or illegal). Just like prohibition was a bad law, so are other laws that continue to fractionalize and divide the people in America based on their ethnic and cultural heritage.
You say, "It should *never* be okay to ignore or break the law." So you would then believe that any law that limits or restricts your freedom and soveignty for the security of the masses is a just law regardless of the cost to your life, your pursuit of happiness, and your desire for privacy?
Sorry, are you now ready for your copy of BRAINWASHED from amazon.com?
While I agree that immigration is a fiasco right now, I'm not sure that you can classify our immigration policy over the last 200 years as legal or controlled. And then, what do we do with all of the illegal immigrants before the signing of the declaration of independence? No...wait...the Indians that's right we are all illegal immigrants if we ask the Indians who were here before us. My oh my, so many people, so many points of view, so few with even a drop of compassionate sweat.
Again, BRAINWASHED is available at amazon.com.
Thanks for the help!
None offered!
I'm not sure either what the end results should be, however I know that the first step to solving the problem is identifying it and isolating it so that everyone can understand how it effects each and every aspect of our lives. Then you can apply different solutions and the cost short and long term to match and solve the issue of the problem. I know this...I am not for shooting, arresting and incarcerating just to deport them so they can come back. That's why I have arrived at the position that I am today. The cost to do anything other than have them somehow legally integrate, regardless of amnesty, citizenship, and SS is just to hugh to even consider. It isnt like we would just take them to the border and drop them off.
The problem has been identified. Laws exist. No enforcement. Living in Southern California I know how it has affected my life. I am leaving Southern California because of this. If you were here and have seen what I have you would be leaving for somewhere, anywhere but here, you would too! The solution is enforcement of our existing laws, which are NOT enforced!
