Bush to Give Illegals SS Benefits January 06 2004 03:29:00 PM EST

President Bush is set to present his immigration proposal Wednesday. WASHINGTON, Jan 06, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- President Bush wants to let some of the eight million illegal aliens in the United States move toward legal status without penalty -- but with benefits. His proposals, part of a sweeping change in U.S. immigration policy, will be revealed Wednesday, the Washington Times reported.

Bush will propose that illegal aliens from Mexico, and possibly other countries, who pay U.S. Social Security taxes, but provide false identification numbers, be allowed to collect benefits.

"The president has long talked about the importance of having an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employers," said White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan Monday.

The plan is expected to be opposed by Republicans on Capitol Hill, but it will be embraced by Mexican President Vicente Fox when he meets Bush during a Jan. 12-14 meeting in Monterrey, Mexico.

The changes have long been advocated by Fox, whose close relationship with Bush has been strained since border security efforts were beefed up after the Sept. 11 attacks and since Mexico refused to support the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

Fox said the plan would allow Mexicans "to go and come each year as many times as they want, without problems, so that they can work with documents in the United States."

ONCE MORE: NO ONE IS PROPOSING AN AMNESTY. GET IT? GET IT?

The last time I checked, the Spanish word "amnestia" is for "amnesty."

And Rich, for your information, I have read Spanish for over 30 years, and I am reading it all over the Spanish language WWW media tonight, out of Mexico, Guadalajara, Juarez and in the US, La Opinion of L.A., La Raza in Chicago, etc. and believe me, that is PRECISELY what is happening and that is what they are expecting, eventually. You should read these articles too, my friend.

I'll help translate some of them into English, if you cannot read Spanish.

Look, I'm for all sorts of extreme solutions. Frankly, I think that not only should illegal immigrants be expelled and troops launched across the border- but that perhaps even the US Army should, in response to Mexican outrages, march across the border, seize Mexico City, and make off with a substantial amount of money in compenstaion for the costs Mexico has imposed upon the United States. Perhaps even a ten mile zone along the Mexican side of the border could be cleared and made into a "free fire" area.

But, one (or two or three) wars at a time. Also, once again, THIS IS NOT AN AMNESTY THAT IS BEING PROPOSED.

Get it? An Amnesty would give these people Green Cards. That isn't what is being proposed, at all.

Perhaps you're just typing quickly. It's not Hispanics that are the problem. It is the illegal aliens. My next door neighbor is named Dominguez. He has voted Republican for years. His ancestors came to this state before it was a state and several generations have been native born citizens. Think before you write. Hispanics are not the problem. Illegal immigrants are.

Agreed. My state senator is named Garcia. He was born here as a US Citizen, served in the Persian Gulf War, and and is a conservative Republican.

Illegals(whatever ethnicity - not all are Hispanic) are the problem.

"IMHO, every political rally in 2004 of Dean and Bush should be stacked with hecklers everywhere they go, of LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, who shout this question"

Another question

Where do I go to get the 14 months I was without my wife back, and very much secondarily, my 12 grand back?

Another self-inflicted domestic issue failure for GWB, and another huge win for Liberal Socialism in America. Just frickin' great.

Do you care to bet? It will not be an Amnesty.

Basically, from what I understand, it will be the following:

1) A sort of 'guest worker' program which will allow people to get a term-limited Visa (like the present NAFTA visas) to work at a specific pre-agreed job which must first be offered to American citizens.
2) Present illegals will, through some means, be allowed access to this system which- under normal conditiosn will not lead to one becoming a Permanent Resident. Anyone who gets once of these Visas and then attempts to use them as a short cut to Permanent Residency will be penalized in some way.
3) This system will be combined with tougher enterance controls.
4) The system will be toughened up as it passes through the Congress.

Second, what you fail to understand is the point of this. This plan will be DOA when it gets to Congress.

We understand it only too well. At the conniving insistence of Rove, Bush is pandering to Hispanics and telling his base (I certainly supported him in 2000) to get stuffed if they don't like it. He's taking a calculated risk that he will gain more Hispanic votes in key states than he will lose conservative votes in safe states. It's that simple.

As for the "strategery" you allude to, I'm not buying it. We heard the same foolishness in connection with campaign finance reform legislation he signed, i.e., "Don't worry about it! It'll be DOA when it gets to the Supremes."

It is my firm belief that once enough Mexicans reside in the South West they will attempt to seceed from the US and either reunite with Mexico or form thier own Hispanic state.

It's a domestic issue success for W, which is the same as a Liberal Socialist success. Don't you get it?

Well, that is where the federal class action suit comes in, by LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, against President Bush and Karl Rove, for non application of equal protection clause, to recover funds spent to secure legal residence in the country, when a defacto granting of 'regularization' (amnesty = amnestia) to millions of others occur, absolving them of any such hardships, past or present.

Nader helped elected George W. Bush. Ditto Republicans who voted for Ross Perot in 1992 which, of course, gave us Clinton.

How right Perot was about the sucking sound in the economy, too bad no one listened.

It will not be Amnesty. If the damned Mexicans are hearing 'amnesty' its only because they are failing to understand what they are reading.

How about we start with a 'retro bet', going back to the mid 1980s, under GOP Administration and Democrat Congress, to regularize illegal immigrants (and hoping this would somehow shut off the flow), which has resulted in 8-10 million illegal aliens. If this is not amnesty, I don't know what is.

Folks, you seem to fail to understand that this is wartime.

Yes, and as we all know, it's important to have wide-open borders with no effective anti-illegal immigration policies during wartime.

Get a clue. If Jose can sneak across the border to work in construction, Abdul & Mohammad can sneak across with some biological or nuclear weapons.

Is defense of our borders such a big thing to ask of our government?

Basically, from what I understand, it will be the following:

A capitulation to the law-breaking,
a slap in the face to those who have waited to enter this country legally,
an invitation to millions more to do the same for the next great political cave-in, and
yet another victory for Liberal Socialism.

It's irrelevant what the Mexicans are reading into this. They're still comin' by the million, and no one is stopping them.
