While visiting Dad in Mesa, AZ in May 1998, ate eggs benedict for breakfast at a Lyons Restaurant, started to drive home to Fresno CA. By the time I hit the Tehachapis south of Bakersfield, I started feeling a general uncomfortable feeling around my midsection. By Bakersfield, I was feeling confused and nauseous (lucky my lady was driving). By Kingsburg, she was pulling over, I felt like I had to throw up but couldn't--I was feeling REALLY bad (worst I had EVER felt), high pulse rate, very confused and SEVERE stomach pain. As we pulled into her garage around midnight...here it came...I barely made it to the bathroom, and hurled yellow, acrid puke 7 feet across the floor as I opened the door (yucko, I know). I was in severe distress, thought about calling ambulance but waited until morning (after puking several more times) when she took me to Clovis Community Hospital Emergency around 6 AM. Doctor did a liver panel, came back very abnormal. So I laid there waiting on a second test thinking about liver transplants. Doc said food poisoning, but didn't think Salmonella, couldn't tell for sure, second panel was improved. I felt terrible for week or so, did another follow-up liver panel a month later, it was O.K.
I think it was Salmonella, and hope that whatever it was, it didn't compromise my liver and will come back to haunt me as I age!
