Fellow Freepers, we need to try to block the Bush Amnesty Proposal that is being prepared to be released on Wednesday, by Freeping the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52647-2004Jan3.html
The gist of the Washington Post story is that Bush will propose 3 major components on Wednesday:
1) Give an amnesty to an unspecified amount of Illegal Aliens (Probably a little less than 500,000 people.)
2) Give some sort of Social Security benefits to Illegal Aliens.
3) Create some sort of Guest Worker program.
I believe that if we put enough grass roots pressure on the GOP House Judiciary Committee members (who are listed below) we can have parts 1 and 2 completely removed from any bill in the House, and have part 3 considerably watered down if a large amount of us protest by Phoning/Faxing/E-Mailing the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee and demanding that they reject the Amnesty (Below is a list of how to contact all members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee memebers).
Now the Buchananites here on FR will no doubt say "The GOP doesn't listen to us/There is no difference between the two parties/ blah blah blah...". But they are wrong, there is considerable opposition within the House GOP to any amnesty for Illegal immigrants.
In August 2001 the House GOP was ready to rebel against the President and kill off the original Bush Amnesty proposal, until the 911 attacks buried the plan.
All GOP politicians (With the apparent exception of Bush and Rove) know very well that illegal immigrants won't vote for Republicans.
Think about it, all politicians absolutely MUST know who is and isn't going to vote for them.
The GOP has studied the 2000 and 2002 Election Exit polls in excruciating detail, and there is no evidence whatsoever that the GOP got any headway in the Latino vote in 2002. Furthermore polls show that no headway will be made by the GOP in the 2004 election.
That is why a number of major Republican politicians in November and December of 2003 have publicly said that there was major hostility to any Amnesty program within Congress.
For Example:
* Texas Governor Rick Perry said (during a meeting with Vicente Fox no less) that there was no support for any sort of Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants in Congress.
* Arizona Senator John Kyl said the McCain/Kolbe Amnesty bill, and other Illegal Immigrant bills, would be impossible to pass in 2004.
* Texas Congressman Lamar Smith (Who sits on the Judiciary Committee) said after the Ridge Trial balloon for Amnesty to all Illegal Immigrants:
"I don't see a substantial change in immigration policy in an election year," said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, a House immigration subcommittee member who has expressed concern that an amnesty program for illegal immigrants could harm national security."
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dallas/nation/stories/121203dnnatimmigration.76a1.html
* And Finally Tom Tancredo said in the same article:
"We have enough support on our side to stop them from liberalizing immigration law," said Mr. Tancredo, R" Colo. "And on the other hand, I don't think I have enough [support] to advance our agenda. So, that's why I think we are sort of at loggerheads."
What we Freepers need to do is, instead of voting for the Constitution Party:
1) Phone up the below members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee Members (Who are all listed below) to complain about this Amnesty plan and tell them not to pass it.
2) Fax these Congressmen to tell them to reject the plan.
3) Email these Congressmen to reject an amnesty.
If enough of us complain, it will help block the major portions of the White House's plan in the House where most Republican Congressmen are already very leary of an Amnesty plan.
PS: In your letters/phone calls/E-mails to the below Congressmen, do NOT use any vulgarity.
Regards,
Pubbie

Indeed. I heard that Mexico now ranks 7th in the world in trade. Clearly too many of her citizens are not deriving much benefit from it.

If it can conceivably be justified that 12 million people can cross the borders illegally because they are "economic refugees", then I suspect that there are around 6 billion people on the planet that could use the same "logic". So we let them all in?

I do not know if Mex. treats all illegal entry as a felony, I am pretty sure they do in some cases. With their record of graft and shake downs it might be hard to tell.
My point applies to more countries than just Mex., I recall that illicit entry into some will get you several years at hard labor.
Anyone know what China does with illegal "immigrants"?
I do know from talking with many people who visit Mex. frequently, or who originated there and now have U.S. citizenship, that even if the Mex. authorities do not charge you with a felony they WILL allow other inmates and guards to abuse you in a variety of ways.
Then they will bill your family for your keep, only releasing you after receipt of a substantial ransom, er ah, I mean bail.
You might also be released after a prisoner exchange, but that can take years.

Another amnesty IS surrender of our national sovereignty!
V. Fox sends illegals to the U.S. as a means of projecting his power here, and raiding the U.S. economy.
Mex. has set up organizations on both sides of the border to tell the Mex. invaders what to lobby for, and how to vote in American elections!
I would define that as an attempted take over of U.S. sovereignty, and an act of war.
I have already experienced the joy of illegals, my fellow workers, DEMANDING that I learn their pidgin Spanish, rather than their learning U.S. English. I was not amused.
The company went bust, the quality of their product fell in proportion to the amount of "cheap" illegal labor they hired.
Hiring even more illiterate, unskilled, and non-english speaking labor only made the situation worse.
Even in business you usually get what you pay for, that company should be a lesson to others.

At least you won't be voting for someone that matters.

"We did that with campaign finance reform and then it was too late."The bill was posted on every major newspaper in America, we SAW the bill. You don't even know what this "amnesty" is about, as a matter of fact, Bush himself has repeatedly said that there's no "amnesty".

No --- I don't think so --- Mexico has less excuse for "economic refugees" than almost any country in the world -- Japan just has a small Island and they do okay --- Mexico has two oceans --- like we do, lots of oil reserves, and all the rest. There should be plenty of opportunity for it's citizens if they are hard-working -- and many are. That's why I think we need to have Fox come up with a list of solutions that he's going to start putting into place --- provide him some help possibly on some things --- like sending technology.

Simply being sent back to your own country isn't really abuse. I don't think people need to be abused --- just processed and sent back. Mexico sending back Americans who haven't paid attention to their laws wouldn't be abuse or racist.

Yes, we've seen it called a 'mechanism' to remain in the country, guest worker, regularization, legalization, & Ridge said, offer them 'legal status', just to name a FEW.
However they decide to *SPIN* it.....it will still be an amnesty !! They just hope we don't notice.

LOL! That's all been done. Doesn't seem to have caused many people heartburn. I would rather have the defacto immigration laws made the actual immigration laws. It's one of those rule of law kind of issues for me.

I don't know if anyone thinks being an illegal involves 'little or no effort'. 'little or no effort' just involves overstaying a visitors visa. Then it gets easier when the States welfare programs enable you to live better here than at home.

" So if you 'reward' those who have "violated our laws" & 'give them legal status'.......it's the same as amnesty"
You are conflating " legal status" with amnesty. Aliens with green cards have a legal status, visitors with temporary visas have a legal status,POWs have a legal status, enemy combatants have a legal status.Illegal aliens have a legal status-they are in violation of numerous federal immigration laws.
To: Luis Gonzalez
**There is no plan, none that I know of anyway, to award SDS benefits to illegal aliens; the very idea is actually laughable since by their very nature, illegal aliens who worked in the US can't actually prove that they paid into the SSA.
From all reports, and per Congressman Smith's office, this plan WILL be presented by Bush on Wednesday. It WILL include SSI benefits to ILLEGAL ALIENS and their beneficiaries who have worked ILLEGALLY in the United States.
**I know some illegal immigrants as well, and lots and lots of native-born Americans who think worse of this country than any one of the illegal immigrants do.
What ILLEGAL ALIEN would not love a country that blindly hands out benefits to them, regardless of their ILLEGAL status??
Every US citizen who looked at their last paycheck stub of 2003 noticed the amount taken out for taxes. I am 24 years old. $15,000 was taken from me to support our government. I am EXTREMELY PROUD to be a citizen of the greatest country in the world! I do, however, think very poorly of the blindness to which our government displays when handing out cash to people who ARE NOT citizens of our country, while men serving in the armed forces to protect the United States are purchasing their own equipment to survive a war WE sent them into.
**What effort are we making to keep Americans from entering Mexico illegally?
Hopefully NONE!!! If I have to pay in $15,000 again this year - 38% of which goes to pay for ILLEGAL ALIEN BENEFITS, I'd almost rather move to Mexico.
**Most here like to call me a troll...
Yes, sir, and they would be correct.
This is a conservative site.
This is an activism thread.
What sort of activism, you have asked numerous times?
Quite simply, we the young taxpaying, conservative citizens of the United States of America no longer wish to bear the burden supporting the medical, educational, and now possibly the retirement benefits awarded to ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!

Thank you for this post.
My calls, emails, AND faxes to these congressmen will begin today. I have also enlisted my mother, thus far, and will continue recruiting colleagues and friends until this plan is buried.
