Al-Jazeera television is broadcasting what is said to be a new audio tape of Osama bin Laden.

It is claimed he will refer to the capture of ex-Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"The audiotape contains new things. It refers to the Geneva Initiative (an unofficial Israeli-Palestinian peace plan unveiled in early December) and the capture of Saddam Hussein on December 13," al-Jazeera editor Ibrahim Hilal said.

Hilal said the voice purported to be that of bin Laden will also refer to the "(US) crusade against the Islamic world."

Early translations indicated that bin Laden called on Muslims to fight Western troops in Iraq with weapons rather than dialogue.

He also condemned Gulf states which supported the invasion of Iraq.

He called the Middle East issues part of a religious and economic war, saying the "big powers" were trying to control the region for its oil.

That was the word on the street. I am really thinking that we have stopped an attack during the holidays. Anxious to see if the tape makes any reference to "recent" attacks on us. Tape could have been in route as the scheduled attack was suppose to take place.

Unfortunately I do not think OBL is dead. From reading the early part of the thread, I guess I'm in the minority. I swore that saddam was dead. And was wrong. Fox news has a guy by the name of Monsor Ijaaz (sp). I really like the guy. For my money he is the most knowledgeable guy on TV concerning the War on terror. He says that he thinks OBL is in Iran. I tend to believe that also

As of 5 minutes ago he was still listed by the FBI as Alive and wanted.

He is using couriers.....so Saddam was captured Dec 13-14....it has been 3 weeks since then.....this tape fits the time frame of what it would take a courier to get it to Qatar.

That's an excellent point. I have this feeling that we're going to get him sooner rather than later, and I mean before the elections. This is something the Liberals don't want.

NEW RULE:

I've got a new criterion for Bin Laden tapes. No audio tapes will be considered real. Any Bin Laden tapes must show video as well as audio, or they will be considered inauthentic. I don't know why our government isn't already doing this.

It's an easy thing to crank out a poor-quality tape and say it's Bin Laden. However, anybody could be impersonating him.

I personally think he's dead, which is why we never see him anymore. Remember, he was very very sick the last time we actually saw him on tape.

Any threats, of course, coming from audio tapes will be taken seriously. However, we will not assume that they come from Bin Laden himself, but from his rabid followers.
