Three meetings over two days between Washington Redskins officials and former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel were said to leave the Redskins' apparent top candidate "extremely impressed."
Owner Dan Snyder and vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato yesterday capped their interview with Fassel over breakfast in San Francisco. Agent Steve Rosner said the trio of meetings beginning Thursday totaled 12 hours and reviewed myriad issues pertaining to what Fassel might expect as Redskins coach.

"Jim was extremely impressed with Dan Snyder," Rosner said after the Redskins and Fassel parted ways. "He was impressed with how prepared they were.
I'm sure he'll be impressed with him in about a year when he's fired like every other Deadskins coach.

LOL! You're kidding me, right? Fassel is a joke. But he's perfect for a brain-dead organization such as the 'Skins.

As a Cowboy fan I'm fine with Fassel, whom we've beaten regularly this year.

Fassel is a joke He's a great coach; his players quit on him despite a ton of injuries. Plus the NY sports media engaged in some self-fulfilling prophecy, talking about Fassel's dismissal at length midway through the season.
Two division titles and a Super Bowl berth in seven years is a nice accomplishment. The Giants could have won another NFC championship had they not been robbed at SF that one year.

Another brilliant idea from Snyder: taking the coach of the only team in their division that sucked worse than the Skins.

Anyone who coaches under Dan Snyder needs to get their head examined. He's the NFC's version of Al Davis.
That's why I love organizations such as the Packers and the Patriots. Their owners and GMs stay the hell outta the coaches way. Too many coaching changes alienates fans and discourages free agents from playing for that particular team.

I wonder how much Dennis Green likes being the token interviewed for every single head coach opening.

Any claim to great coaching Fassel had went away when he told Tiki Barber not to worry about his fumble problems and not to change his style of running. The team quit on him because he kept giving the ball to a fumble machine, why play for a coach that's giving the ball away. As for getting robbed in SF last year, puh-lease, they gave up one of the biggest blown leads in playoff history, and again that's one blown entirely by Fassel who went pass whacky while defending a 3 score lead. If on any of those last four posessions before SF takes the lead Collins kneels three times and they punt using up 2 1/2 minutes in the process the Giants win the game. Bad coaching in their playoff birth cost them the game, bad coaching throughout the season cost them 12 games, Fassell might have been a good coach once but he's all used up.

Plus the NY sports media engaged in some self-fulfilling prophecy All the sports media did. Week in and week out it was nothing but "Will the Giants fire Fassel?" and other statements.
It must be gut-wrenching to be the first NFL interim coach ever to be fired as a head coach (Fassel coached the last two or three games).

Well, if you want a nice big contract for five years, and only have to do work for one year and still get the five years of money, why not?
Snyder probably doesn't mind wasting all this money, since the Deadskins are the most profitable team. I don't know how long that can last, the way they've disappointed fans.

Also agree that the NFL's diversity policy is stupid. I'm sure Snyder has the $200 grand in extortion money that Lions GM Matt Millen paid.

The NFL diversity policy is probably well-intentioned, but it's an actually an insult to black coaches. It's also an insult to owners who already know which coach they want to run their program.
The more Dennis Green gets interviewed and rejected just to fulfill the diversity policy, the less likely he'll ever land another job.
I'm not really sticking up for Green. I think he's trouble and I'd never pick him to coach again. But there are many good black coaches to choose from, and NFL owners were doing that long before this dumb diversity policy.

Fassel is probably most impressed with the fact that the 'Skins ownership/managment team, nutty as they may be, actually seems like they
want to win.
And he's probably impressed with the salary figure Snyder threw out there too.....

As long as King Danny is the majority owner of that team, they'll be a league doormat.
To: Chris Tucker
Jim Fassel is not a motivator and is not a winner. He's not head coach material and should have been fired after the 1999 season. After seven long years as the Giants head coach, Fassel never had two back to back winning seasons.
Nuff said about Fassel.
It will be interesting to see who GM Ernie Accorsi and owners W.Mara/J.Mara and Bob Tisch decide on to lead the Giants. I hope he's a winner. Aside from Bill Parcells, the Giants have been going nowhere for 40 years.

"Fassel is probably most impressed with the fact that the 'Skins ownership/managment team, nutty as they may be, actually seems like they want to win."Money never seems to be an object for the 'Skins, while Washington will finally be hiring a coach with proven professional success.
Fassel will greatly benefit from having a coaching staff that doesn't resemble a Pop Warner version, or a management that doesn't expect an entire offensive line which ALL start their first professional game on the SAME DAY to be a handicap.
