"Air Flash"? Not a happy name for an airline.

Don't you know, everything short of the extinction of the dinosaur is a direct result of Bush's policy.

Remember a few years back before 9/11, when an Egyptian pilot deliberately brought a plane down - and later when the black box was recovered, the pilot was found to be uttering a mantra, something like, "God is great, God is great..." over and over.

Maybe no connection, but these wacko Egyptians are somewhat suspect.

Or was it the second, after the bombing of the World Trade Center? However the result was the same, they did nothing about either one.

The first islamic terrorist attack on the US. All though we weren't told that at the time, blame the klintoonistas.

Sorry, but when I hear crash, charter, poor country, and fog, it is usually a normal crash. I spent lots of time at an airline and studied lots of crashes, it happens, all the time.

Sure, that's true.

And sometimes a suicide in Arkansas is just a suicide.

But sometimes it's not

Well, I can tell you, I'm pretty on top of the industry, I get a few of the industry magazines and know most of the world airliners. I have never heard of Flash, if its a 2 plane operation, I would wager that they are pretty chintzy on their maintenance. As for charters, there are scads of charters from Sharm and Hurghada.

Egypt Air is a large airline, but when I flew them, the JFK-CAI flight was on a brand new 777, however, the CAI-Hurghada was on a fairly new A340 widebody that was in pretty ragged shape. At Cairo, I saw some pretty nasty looking planes from some charters that looked a bit dodgy. In Europe, charters like this are common, there are plenty of them, at all ranges of quality.

Egyptian Charter Jet Crashes Into Red Sea
17 minutes ago

By MOHAMED KHALIFA, Associated Press Writer

CAIRO, Egypt - A charter airliner with 135 people aboard — most of them French tourists — crashed into the Red Sea shortly after takeoff early Saturday from the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, according to airport officials in Cairo. No survivors were immediately found.

The Boeing 737 jet took off shortly before 5 a.m. (10 p.m. EST) and quickly disappeared from radar about seven miles south of the airport, airport officials said, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

The crash occurred amid a week of heightened concerns about terrorist threats from the air that have led to increased security and canceled flights around the world.

But an initial statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation called the crash an "accident" and said crews were searching for the wreckage. It gave no ideas on the possible cause.

The officials said 127 passengers and eight crew members were aboard the jet operated by the private Egyptian company Air Flash en route to Cairo, and most were French tourists.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene but found no immediate survivors.

A Guinean-registered Boeing 727, carrying mostly Lebanese passengers, plunged into the Atlantic Ocean off the West African nation of Benin on Dec. 25, killing at least 130 of the 161 people aboard.

Sharm el-Sheik is a popular Red Sea tourist resort that also frequently hosts major political and economic summits. Egypt has held several meetings on peace in the Middle East there, including one in which President Bush (news - web sites) met with regional leaders in June over the "road map" plan toward creating a Palestinian state.

Yes but considering the timing, the location and that the passengers were European it deserves a suspicious look

I wonder what kind of fallout ole Jacques Chirac gets if it turms out to be terrorism.

Safety and reliability are the motto of the company.

Whenever an American plane goes down, ALL U.S. airlines immediately pull their ads off of tv and radio. It's so statements like these don't accidentally show up while the newscasters are talking about a fatal crash.

Guess they'll need to find a new motto.

LOL CtoC was really bad tonight...

LOL, it's almost 8AM here. It's kind of weird to get up in the morning and listen to CtC. Yesterday's was pretty cool- they had the Paul is Dead conspiracy and played all the hidden clues from the Beatles' songs ;-)

Bin Laden's #2 guy al-Zawahiri (and most of the pre-9/11 al-Qaeda hierarchy for that matter) were Egyptian and their first target was the government of Egypt. Hitting an Egyptian jet, even if it was a private charter outfit, AND taking out a bunch of "Frankish Crusaders" sounds like him.

I was just tonight reading the New Yorker article that Valin posted: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1050628/posts.

Yeah, but I spent lots of time working in the industry, and have lots of pilot friends. Planes crash, overwhelmingly without a conspiracy behind them. Take off the tinfoil and wait for actual DATA before you go off half cocked and ready to start pointing fingers at the NWO, the Illuminati, the Bilderbergers, Al Queda etc....

Occam's Razor...

My fraternity brother was a United mechanic, now he's with Jet Blue. He won't fly any of the small guys, like Allegro...

His opinions on most of the plane crashes that end up on FR threads wouldn't go over well with most of the people here, so I never post them

How can it be Bush's fault?

Hmmm. Well, pay attention to the dems and you'll hear how. Bush, according to DemUnderground, was responsible for the Iran earthquake.
