CAIRO, Egypt - A charter airliner with 135 people aboard most of them French tourists crashed into the Red Sea shortly after takeoff early Saturday from the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, according to airport officials in Cairo. No survivors were immediately found.
The Boeing 737 jet took off shortly before 5 a.m. (10 p.m. EST) and quickly disappeared from radar about seven miles south of the airport, airport officials said, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.
The officials said 127 passengers and eight crew members were aboard the jet operated by the private Egyptian company Air Flash en route to Cairo, and most were French tourists.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene but found no immediate survivors.
An initial statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation called the crash an "accident" and said crews were searching for the wreckage. It gave no ideas on the possible cause.

Another look at Egypt Air crash
© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com
Nearly two years before the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Egypt Air Flight 990 took off from Kennedy Airport bound for Cairo and inexplicably crashed into the Atlantic off Nantucket, Mass., killing all 217 aboard.
U.S. investigators determined the relief co-pilot, Gamil el-Batouty, deliberately crashed the plane. Those findings were released just five months before Sept. 11.
Batouty's last words, according to investigators, were in the form of Muslim prayer in Arabic: "I rely on Allah." He said it 11 times before the aircraft began its sudden descent from 33,000 feet to 16,000 feet.

There was a charter airline there that ran the new TU-204 planes which were the Russian 757 ripoffs, it could be that one. If so, it would be the first ever crash of the type.

I know this is conspiracy-theory stuff...but I wonder how certain it is that
it actually went into the water...
instead of some terrorist flying it under the radar and headed for some
target of opportunity (in Israel, Baghdad?)

Every crash should be viewed as caused by terrorists until investagation proves otherwise!
That would help the officials responsible for security!
