WASHINGTON -- The government will give six presidential candidates $15.4 million combined in federal matching funds on Friday, less than half of the amount it divided among presidential candidates during the same period in 2000.
Retired Gen. Wesley Clark will get $3.7 million, the largest amount. That's followed by $3.6 million for Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, $3.4 million for North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and $3.1 million for Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt. Perennial presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche will get $839,000 and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich will get $736,000.
Taxpayers pay for the program by checking a box on their income-tax returns.
President Bush, and Democrats Howard Dean of Vermont and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts all opted out of the public financing system.
Each candidate, to qualify, must raise at least $5,000 in each of 20 states in donations of $250 or less and keep detailed contribution records, including donors' names, addresses and employer information.

Taxpayers pay for the program by checking a box on their income-tax returns. Has any Republican ever checked this box? All of the money is going to the whackos.

Lyndon LaRouche will get $839,000 and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich will get $736,000. So why is it that the media never lists Lyndon LaRouche among the democrat candidates when he has more contributors than Kucinich?

Most of that goes to pay for his gold-plated drool cup.

Isn't LaRouche such a whack job that even the Dems are embarrassed by him? I don't know much about him but I've heard he is insane. At least that's what Medved says and I trust his opinion.

As a convicted felon, LaRouche should not even be allowed to vote, much less run for office and receive public funds.

Why do people do this? I never gave them anything.

Has any Republican ever checked this box? All of the money is going to the whackos. Exactly how much money goes to all conservative candidates?

So why is it that the media never lists Lyndon LaRouche among the democrat candidates when he has more contributors than Kucinich? LaRouche and Kucinich are both kooks, but Kucinich demands a modicum of respect as an elected official. LaRouche is an ex-con whose conspiracy theories would make Art Bell bust a gut laughing.

Mail fraud, conspiracy, income tax evasion, obstruction of justice, etc. He's nothing but a common law breaker. As a convicted felon, he can't vote for himself but, strangely, he's considered good enough to hold the highest office in the land. Go figure.

As a convicted felon, he can't vote for himself Depends on where he lives. Individual states determine who can vote. My state (Illinois) allows convicted felons to vote, as long as they are not incarcerated.

I know that. His home state of Virginia denies the vote to convicted felons.
