"if there's anyone's arms I'd want to be in if I was a few feet from a croc, it's Irwin's." Same here.

"I don't think we should be encouraging people to use their infants as publicity props" I don't either, but I think the differnce here is that at the zoo, feeding the animals is part of the children's daily experience. If they only participated for the cameras I might be inclined to agree. According to the bio on the Crocodile Hunter website, his daughter was a part of that life from day 1.

I know what you mean, I can't stand people who complain about the government telling them what to do and then in the next breath are complaining because the government ISN'T interfering in someone else's life.
I am a big fan of Steve and Terry Irwin and considering that they live at and run a zoo, I don't find the incident surprising at all and see nothing wrong with it. They are animal experts and if they feel its safe for their child, that's their decision to make. I don't know why people are so quick to judge people on how they raise their children.

No, he's not a conservative. He's a raving environmental looney, continually going on about all the endangered species. This little trick was stupid. A croc doesn't know the difference between a chicken and a baby.

I think Roy thought he was pretty safe around that tiger, too. :)

From what I know of Irwin, his dad raised him more or less the same way.

Or, it could be because he dangled his newborn baby IN FRONT OF A CROCODILE!!!!!!!In the video I saw of this incident, I didn't see Steve dangle his newborn baby in front of a crocodile.

I was shocked- shocked I tell you- that this tiny baby's name is Bob. I mean, no offense to the "Bobs" out there, but Bob is just not a name for a tiny baby. He should start as a Bobby or Robby before moving to Bob in his late teens, early twenties.

let's see: 2 bear experts got killed by bears, a wolf lover was killed by wolves, and a tiger expert was attacked by a tiger, all in the past year. i guess the crocs are smarter and know not to attack irwin or his baby.
reptiles are not too bright and they will go after whatever looks like food. irwin will probably eventually get killed by a croc.

continually going on about all the endangered speciesWhat's wrong with caring about endangered species? Caring about the environment does not make one a leftist.

I think we should all stand back and get the real point here...Steve wants his son to be without fear...and its his parental right to do so. The picture probably shouldn't have been published...but it happened. As for being kid in todays world...I would pick Steve Irwin over just about anyone to be my dad. And I would have no doubt that dad kill any croc within three seconds, who threaten my life. Considering the state of teenagers in today's society...we need more Steve Irwins in this world.

let's see: 2 bear experts got killed by bears, a wolf lover was killed by wolves, and a tiger expert was attacked by a tiger, all in the past year. ...and more people and their kids are killed by the family dog, year in and year out. Shall we arrest people for child abuse for owning a large dog? Or even a small one, since a Pomeranian recently killed a 6-month old todder?
Here's what I know: Steve Irwin knows far more about crocodiles than any of the people who are "horrified" by what he did. If he thought it was safe enough for his own child, I'll take his opinion over any of the ninnies who are falling over in a faint going, "but it was a wild animal, eek!"
That "wild animal" is one that has been hand-fed and socialized to humans for years and years, and Irwin knows it well. And I'm sure he chose the most predictable croc he owns for this event, just as any parent would.
The same people who are freaking out over having the kid at a crocodile feeding probably think nothing of walking their own kids along a busy street, which is a more dangerous act.

There is also the issue that the croc may not have been that hungry (looks kinda pudgy to me). And he maybe a very sluggish mover. Yeah, they're slow on land I think. I see worse all the time. I hate it when I'm around someone with a baby and they start doing the throwing-them-up-in-the-air-and-catching-them routine. I don't equate the level of danger involved with that stunt with the few seconds of thrill.

This thread demonstrates a clear dividing line between men and woman.
The odds of the child being hurt were astronomical. We all know, as Steve said, the child is in more danger when he is placed in a car headed for the highway.
I wouldn't feed a croc with my one month old in my arms, but I am not Steve Irwin. We conservatives have to avoid letting our emotions think for us.
Steve Irwin is one of the toughest guys around, and I bet his son Bob will chew nails someday too.

Yes, an accident could have happened. But the odds are low. It didn't bother me much to watch the footage. It bothers me much more that he named his daughter after a croc!

First, all species are "endangered." If you believe in "mother nature," then "mother knows best," and probably these species were supposed to die out. Humans were merely the "tool" by which "mother nature" uses to eliminate them.
But if you believe in the Bible, man has dominion over these animals, and obviously thousands/millions of species have already passed without any apparent harm to us or the planet. Name, for example, one single animal species that we absolutely cannot do without.
The point is not to wantonly go out and kill kangaroo rats for the hell of it; but if one gets in my way when I'm plowing a field to feed people, you can damn sure bet I'm not following any government order to protect his little nest.

He said he had complete control of the croc. No one ever has complete control over an animal. I think Roy of Seigfried and Roy proved that point.
