January 2, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - President Bush started the new year with an early-morning quail-hunt with his father at a friend's ranch in southern Texas and a lunch with James Baker III, his special envoy on Iraq's international debt.

"I think I shot five - I'm not that good a shot, Bush said afterward. Yeah, but at least Dubya's credible when he goes out hunting. Not like when Clinton or Kerry donned hunting clothes for their campaign photo-ops.

He carries GUNS and actually shoots -=- he must be a dangerous right wing gun-nut extremist < /sarcasm-off> LOL

"He carries GUNS and actually shoots..." Yep! He just lost the PETA vote!
Woe is me!

Umm... don't believe for a minute that this makes W any more pro-2A than any other candidate. Let's see what happens when the AWB issue comes up next year.

Won't be long before we start seeing articles from the left speculating that this was a staged hunt with caged birds being released.

"Como estas?" he said, asking the Spanish-speaking residents near the Mexican border how they were doing"
I get it now. This was a Presidential photo-op to show Bush as part of an armed border patrol.

"I think I shot five - I'm not that good a shot, Bush said afterward. This is just appropriate modesty. GWB is an extremely competent man, fighter pilot, and accomplished athlete. I bet he is an excellent shot. I have known lots of men like this, and growing up as a hunter in Texas, I'd bet that his skills are way above average.
None of the excellent shots that I know would ever answer a question about his ability with a brag. All would answer in much the same way the president did.

Ditto that. Kerry's photo with the shrimpy shotgun was a laugher. He obviously doesn't own one.

What's with all this sissy bird hunting. Can someone up there shoot a deer.

With all due respect to our President-- do recall how
Teddy Roosevelt came to Colorado to hunt bear. People
who wanted to keep th ePresident happy--and make him look
like a great hunter. went out and shot a bear -then wired
it up in a tree for the President to find, and bag.Much
like President Clinton finding rocks on a sandy beach to
shape into a cross-- or that photoop of the Draft dodger
lovingly replacing a small American flag to a place of honor
that somehow ,miraculously had fallen to the ground. Not much faith in photo-ops.If the birds wasn't eat-must be turkey.

Hi Kat! Happy New Year to yah! --- LOVED THE DEER POST, Vision!!!
It's nice to see that those on this thread have life in perspective. BUT, if someone goes all crazy on our wonderful W for hunting, re-post this for me, would yah? It's my answer to another on the Dose that didn't like W hunting....
I'm not that hot on hunting either, but I don't get on other's cases for doing it. It's just a testostrone related thang, that I (thank goodness) can't do. That's why the guys were supposed to bring on in the food, long ago. It's just ancient residue - not to worry.
Also, if someone didn't kill food, we wouldn't have anything to eat. As Ted Nugent told Flipper on Sean's radio show - I'm paraphrasing - You just have a hired assassin to kill YOUR food! ---Okay, I admit, I have hired assassins killing mine, too. Now, it's time for you to admit that too.
So, have a great day, and know that you'll have a bountiful harvest to dine on tonight (because of some butcher in _____), that the Bushs will be dining on quail (because they caught their own food), and that you live in the greatest Country in the World. ---That should be WAY more than enough !

Won't be long before we start seeing articles from the left speculating that this was a staged hunt with caged birds being released. Not only that but the bird's were drugged and a ex-CIA sharp-shooter that worked for one of his big oil cronies actually did the shooting in secret. It was all staged to make Bush look human. Pathetic. Wait--- isn't this DU?

No, I do not recall it, and I doubt it very much. Teddy was an avid hunter before, during, and after his presidency. I doubt if he would have gone along with such a charade. He was on of the early hunters who formed the concept of "fair chase".
I suspect that you are citing an early urban legend.
