  6. There were more than 28 people in your wedding party
  7. Your grandfather had a fig tree
  8. You've always wanted a red Ferrari
  9. When you were growing up, you ate Sunday dinner at 2:00 p.m., and on Thanksgiving, your family’s first course was Ravioli
  10. Your big family gatherings were held in your garage
  11. Your favorite movie is the “Godfather”, your favorite television show is “The Sopranos”, and your favorite singers are (in order) Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jerry Vale, and Louis Prima
  12. Connie Francis songs makes you cry
  13. At least one person in your family does a great impression of Don Corleone
  14. You’ve been hit with a spoon and/or you’ve been hit by a nun
  15. You feel strangely comfortable when you sit on plastic-covered furniture
  16. You know all the words to “That’s Amore”
  17. You’re wife or husband wears a tee shirt that says “Pray for me, I married an Italian.”
  18. You’ve been to the Vatican at least once
  19. For a short time while you were growing up, you wanted to be a priest or a nun
  20. When you were growing up, you thought Jesus was an Italian who lived in Israel
  21. You fight over whether it's called "sauce" or "gravy"
  22. Your mom's meatballs are the best!
  23. If at least five of the above apply to you, congratulations!!! You’re Italian!

Carlo...

I didn't realize it was okay to use canned tomatoes when making authentic Italian sauce.

(I feel redeemed!)

Happy New Year.

Thanks for the recipe!

Canned tomatoes are a lifesaver in every Italian home, now that nobody grows their own Roma tomatoes in their yard anymore.. Here is another myth breaker, it really doesn't matter which brand, even the cheapest brand is as good as the other if you are going to cook it all day..

I have only known a few Italians altough one (He was technically Sicilian) was a very close friend.

A couple of observations. He always stood too close to you when talking, literally would make you back up. When he was 21 he was about as handsome as they come. The girls were all crazy about him. By the time he was 50 he was starting to resemble a fairly handsome gorilla.

He was one of the most generous and kind hearted people I have ever known.

I dared my friend to talk while holding her hands still. She couldn't do it.

I forgot to mention that he was also a great, baseball player. He was a star centerfielder at a major Southern University.

Your menu sounds much like the one I enjoyed in a very Italian restaurant in southern Brazil. The difference? As soon as you finished the dessert course, they cleared the table and as long as you remained seated there, they began serving you the whole menu once again. I was so bloated and content after the fish course, I was ready to leave happy. Only one or two trenchermen were able to get through the second serving of pasta. It was all incredibly good, but we are talking major calorie intake at one sitting--up to thousands of cals per person after eating every item on the menu. Mama mia!

If you go to the Italian sections of Brooklyn, most everyone has these on the stoop in big cement urns. They are supposed to bring good luck to a new household.

Sauce or gravy nothing. It was "pasta e sugo"!

The coffeemaker I have is supposed to be a 10-cup pot, but that is based on a 6 oz. cup. The mugs I use hold a lot more than that, so I only get about 4 mugs. I had to stop drinking caffeine. I buy the beans and grind them myself...usually buy Colombian decaf. I'm not big on flavored coffees, but since they came with the coffeemaker, I gave it a try.
I used to inhale coffee every morning and sometimes in the afternoon, but now I only have it on weekends or when I'm out to dinner.

Again it is time to watch "Big Night" featuring Stanley Tucci and Tony Shaloub

The story takes place in a small Italian restaurant located somewhere on the Jersey shore during the 1950's.

"Big Night" is now on my rental list.  That li'l nugget of info above piqued my curiosity since I'm a Jersey girl who spent many summers down the shore.  Thank you for sharing the link; hopefully I won't have any problem finding the movie to rent.  FReegards.
