CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush plans to spend New Year's Day hunting in southern Texas with his father and U.S. envoy James A. Baker III, who has been circling the globe collecting commitments from nations to forgive Iraq's debt.
``He will have lunch and go on a quail hunt with his father, other family and friends,'' White House spokesman Trent Duffy said Wednesday. ``This group is expected to include Mr. and Mrs. James A. Baker.''
Duffy said he couldn't be sure whether Bush would talk to Baker about the former secretary of state's recent lobbying trip to Asia where Japan agreed on Monday to cut billions of dollars of Iraqi debts. China also said it would consider the idea.
Baker already has won agreements from several European nations, although the exact dollar figures have not been finalized.
``This is a social event,'' Duffy said, adding that the president was not expected to make any public appearances during his trip to Falfurrias, Texas, about 60 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. ``Secretary Baker is a long time family friend. We don't know what they're going to discuss.''
Bush spent New Year's Eve working outdoors at his ranch and keeping abreast of security precautions being taken to prevent a possible terrorist attack at celebrations nationwide, Duffy said. He'll mark the new year by having dinner with friends and family, Duffy said.

Sounds like a fun time.
I hope that they have a safe hunt.

I truly appreciate this wish, I hope indeed that it comes true for me.

Sounds like a fun time and I wish I was there. I've lead a hunting deprived life. With the quail is there a lot of buckshot left in them and not much meat? Great way to crack a tooth?
I will be dissapointed if quail is not on the president's menu tonight.

How much you wanna bet that Bush says to a Secret Service agent:
"Hey come on. Let me use your machine gun."
To: mewzilla
Cute yes, but oh so difficult to shoot (for me anyway). Quail (non pen raised) fly up from cover at what seem to be supersonic speeds, breaking my composure every time. Coincidentally, we are having bacon wrapped quail stuffed with sausage for New Year's dinner. Yummm.
Hope the President enjoys himself today. God bless him.
