Two left-of-center Republicans are feuding over whether it's safe to be in Times Square tonight. According to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Rep. Christopher Shays of Connecticut is as yellow as a Frenchman for being too scared to show up at America's most famous New Year's Eve celebration.
Shays said Tuesday that he wouldn't go to Times Square "for anything."
"Secretary Ridge says just do what you normally do," the congressman told WVIT-TV. "I would say, what do you normally do? If normally you go to Times Square, I wouldn't do what you normally do.
"I wouldn't go into places when you're packed and where if there was panic a lot of injuries would take place."
Bloomie retorted today said that former Iraq POW Shoshana Johnson would be taking part in the festivities at Times Square.
"She was a woman fighting to protect the congressman's freedoms," hizzoner said on NBC's "Today" show. "She was captured and wounded in Iraq. Maybe he should call her and learn a little bit about courage."

I'll be taking Shays' advice. But not because of anything related to "security concerns" -- I won't spend a minute or a dollar more than necessary in this city until the tax burden is reduced and that idiotic smoking ban is lifted.

Here's the lowdown on Shays from his own site:
***Christopher is a nationally recognized environmentalist and has been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club for his strong support of Clean Water and Endangered Species legislation, as well as his aggressive stand in favor of strict new Clean Air regulations. As co-chairman of the Animal Rights Caucus, he continues to be an outspoken advocate for the humane treatment of animals around the world.***
***Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) detailed their recent three-day, two-night trip to Iraq December 4-6, as well as recommendations they have for the reconstruction efforts.
"The purpose of our December trip to Iraq was to observe how the reconstruction is proceeding," said Shays. "During this trip, Congressman Wolf and I traveled outside the umbrella of military protection to Kut, a town of about 300,000, southeast of Baghdad," Shays explained.
"This was Congressman Wolf's second and my third trip to Iraq," Shays continued. ***
Aside from spending taxpayers' money, Shays describes himself as a "moderate."

***"Objectivity is your friend..."***
True. But there are times when objective and subjective conclusions arrive at the same spot.
And in this case, the fact is that a large and symbolic target of Times Square on New Year's Eve does exist! Mayor Bloomberg cannot be expected to be fully objective as he proclaims Times Square safe with his fingers crossed behind his back. If the truth ruffles Bloomberg's feathers, then let's have more feather ruffling! The attacker has the upper hand in such a scenario, whether we like it or not.

Wait, wait, let me see if I understand this. A guy from Connecticut says he wouldn't go to Times Square for anything on New Years' Eve and this is news?

...you can bet your apple Shays knows more that that asshole Bloomie regardless the comment or it's timing If Shays, as chair of the Subcommittee on National Security knows more than Bloomie about the threats and dangers to Time Square on New Years Eve and he neglects to inform Bloomie and his local LE's about it, then Shays is a bigger A-hole than I even imagined.
BTW, Shays knew plenty on the dangers of Clinton during impeachment and yet he failed to act and inform.
