So what's the man's purpose for having this "speech"? One .. to reassure the country
but I get the feeling there is more to this briefing .. that maybe it's to let others know they are being watched VERY closely

This response is typical of the "new" FR. It used to be that FR was the one of the most "intelligent" place on the internet.
After reading all of your responses so far, Meg who is new, comes off looking a lot brighter than you have.

The DOW is climbing. Something has greatly aged Tom Ridge in the last two years. I wonder if, when the masses find out what that it, that the market will still go higher?

This should be the soundbyte the media should use in their reports on this presser: "Terrorists win if we give into panic"

I am genuinely curious as to what this man who sneers at the people who are trying to protect us does for his country. Why? Regardless of what he's "done for his country" (I'm not even sure what that means...does a small business owner get more points than a police officer? What about a Red Cross volunteer vs. a Little League coach?) his ideas either fail or succeed on the merits. Why don't you try discussing his ideas as opposed to insinuating that he's "done little/nothing for his country"?

I agree with your #298. We're trying to get the word out to the terrorists in the hopes they don't even TRY anything.

Mine was a great Christmas and hope yours was too! Mine was good also.
I took a trip out West, away from everything, and really enjoyed the solitude and the surroundings.
Didn't do a damn thing "for the country" though, unless you count the taxes I paid on my trip.
I guess that makes me a bad citizen. But like the Leann Rymes song goes: "Big Deal. So What. Who Cares."

Sorry - I was under the impression that these procedures - in one version or another - were already "in place" for quite awhile now. Is this a good time for a review I suppose? Maybe the Terrorists missed the news first go-around?
To: Mulder
When they violate some victimless "law", like Limbaugh did, maybe they'll realize how un-Free this country is unless you have money.UHHH, seems to me that Limbaugh has money. Not to mention fame and a national audience. Want to try again?

What response from Mexican authorities?
A. Last time, Mexico directed on forces to protect US interests and citizens. Mexico responded as neighbor and worked with US.

Here is a question I'd like to see asked.
Mr. Ridge, Why would you let law abiding citizen carry their own guns(w/ frangible bullets) while flying?

What ideas? He's opposed to Ridge, Homeland Security, and the Patriot act. Those aren't constructive reasonable ideas. They are a list of things he's opposed to.

UHHH, seems to me that Limbaugh has money. And unlike the average joe, he wasn't tossed in the hoosegow at first accusation either. Mulder's point --whether you agree with it or not-- is made.

Didn't do a damn thing "for the country" though, unless you count the taxes I paid on my trip. hehehe! I know better than to fall for that bait, even though I was asked the same question. I'm tempted to "checkmate" them also, but I prefer my anonymity.
