Activist's memory kept alive (Israeli bulldozer squished girl's cousin carries on)

Elizabeth Corrie would see her younger cousin every summer at the family vacation spot on Minnesota's Cedar Lake.

Elizabeth, a Midlothian High School alumna who teaches at a private school in Atlanta, was born nearly a decade earlier than Rachel. But they shared a similar sense of humor, a yearning for social justice and a desire to make a difference.

"Our family is not a vengeful family," Joan Corrie said, her voice breaking. "It's a peace-activist family.

=============================================

No, it is a family of fools. Their daughter learned from her parents and supported the terrorist side. Palestinian children are in the condition in which they find themselves because of the Palestinian leadership and the teaching of hatred. If not for their failure as parents, Rachel would be alive, finishing her college work, and becoming a productive citizen.

You’re right, while tame, lot’s of inappropriate gallows humor here. I’m sorry for her and her family.

You’re correct in noting she died for her ideas, like suicide bombers, misguided as they may be. But there’s a certain naiveté involved in standing in front of an advancing bulldozer which ISM didn’t prepare her for. Accident’s happen, and on occasion expediently result in valuable victims, from a propaganda perspective.

We are sick of these self righteous commie jerks who under the guise of being neutral "peace activists" are actually terrorist enablers.

A variation on "Compassion Fatigue?"

Time for Corin to write another letter?

They won't print another from me for 60 days. Means my letter about Daniel Trollman won't make it either.

If one of you wants to sign your name, I could try to put something together. I may send something anyway. But I won't get published.

Very eloquently put, Salem, and thank you very much for the kind words.

I used to be a volunteer EMT, incidentally, and you're right about gallows humor: It's a coping mechanism. This can be shocking to an outsider (I've occasionally had to remind myself not to tell EMT stories at the dinner table), but laughing at the stupid parts helps you take the horrible parts. (In my case, these were mercifully few, but they happened.)

While I can understand and respect those freepers who feel compassion for the Corries, I cannot emulate them. Rachel Corrie died of her own stupidity, egotism, and moral arrogance, supporting evil and encouraged in her folly but the ones who should have trying to protect her. If I laugh, it's relief that evil she supported claimed its own rather more innocents.

"In fact, her family has been on the receiving end of more hostility than sympathy."

Gee, I wonder why ... .

"Rachel Corrie has been branded a terrorist on Web sites and in mailings to her parents."

Perhaps it's because she defended and took the side of terrorists rather than her own country?

"Somebody sent them a little toy bulldozer in the mail," Elizabeth said.

Did it look the same as the one she allowed to run her over? If so, place it on her grave telling others how she stubbornly stood in front of a bulldozer who couldn't see her and ran her over. Defending terrorist isn't a good idea.

Really ... than you know exactly of what I speak. Any aspect of a First Responder's life is extrmely high stress. You do what you gotta' do to survive.

Thanks.  !

So, further insights into why you are the way you are!

Heehee!

Damn! I'm really saddened

Ah-ha! We always suspected that Dasshole posted at DU...now, evidence!

a young lady of strong convictions and high ideals

True. In fact, if you want to go over to the ME, you can probably still see a stray conviction or ideal lying around someplace on the ground where they were squeezed out of her empty head.

Attention all DUers: She hated America. So do you. Accept it and move on.

Wow, I dragged that junk over here and didn't even notice the part about being 'really saddened.' LOL I guess they've been shamed out of 'deeply' saddened, and must now go with a different adverb.

Is 'squishily' a word? As in: Rachel Corrie was squishily saddened to lose her willful game of chicken with the IDF.

Hey would you please take all my tax dollars and buy a few more? First time in a long time I've heard of tax money being well spent.

"Rachel would be alive, finishing her college work,..."

Not true. At Evergreen State, our state's most infamous institution of Lower Learning, you don't "work" for a degree. You get credit for playing, protesting, political activism, anarchy, but not studying anything productive. A roll of Charmin has more value than an Evergreen diploma.
