Activist's memory kept alive (Israeli bulldozer squished girl's cousin carries on)

Elizabeth Corrie would see her younger cousin every summer at the family vacation spot on Minnesota's Cedar Lake.

Elizabeth, a Midlothian High School alumna who teaches at a private school in Atlanta, was born nearly a decade earlier than Rachel. But they shared a similar sense of humor, a yearning for social justice and a desire to make a difference.

"Our family is not a vengeful family," Joan Corrie said, her voice breaking.
"It's a peace-activist family. "

Translation:
"But we just love people who live to drive the Jews into the sea!"

Wasn't there a thread on DU celebrating the bombing last August of mothers and babies on the Western Wall bus?

While I'll be the first to admit that Rachael Corrie paid the price for her stupidity, I think it is beneath FReepers to laugh at someone else's grief.

I know what you are saying, but the facts of the matter are that Barbara Olson died at the hands of Islamist terrorists targeting Americans, and in contrast, Rachel Corrie died at the hand of Israelis FIGHTING Islamist terrorism.

Corrie threw her lot in with people whose mentality is not of sorrow and shame at being "martyred" for the cause of exterminating Israel, but being worshipped as heroic. To paraphrase the cartoon character "Super Chicken," "[She] knew the job was dangerous when she took it."

The only FR parallel I could see to laughing at Ms. Olson's demise would be engaging in delight that a peacenik's son or daughter perished in Iraq. Do you think anyone would dare express such sentiments here? I don't think so.

People are so cruel to Rachel Corrie and her memory because we are sick of being preached to by these phony baloney college kid "peace activists". We are sick of these self righteous commie jerks who under the guise of being neutral "peace activists" are actually terrorist enablers. The Paleostinian Jew killers and the Jihadist Muslims love the front the "peace activists" put up for them.

Corrie, wearing a fluorescent orange jacket and speaking through a bullhorn, was clearly visible to the bulldozer operator

I imagine she could have also seen the dozer.

Yeah! She played a willful game of chicken and lost. Yet these DUmmies call her the victim.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. After all, she couldn't see terrorists...

I'd never heard of this writer

Calling him a "writer" is a bit of stretch, don't you think?

Witnesses say Corrie, ...to pay much attention to Corrie's plight.

"Plight"? What "plight"? She's still dead now, just as she was dead shortly after letting her arrogance and stupidity
get in the way of the laws of physics.

Her plight, given the circumstances, Palestinian medical care (iirc), and the usefulness of a dead American "martyr"
for terrorism, was mercifully brief.

"Plight", indeed. The plight of the subscribers to the
Richmond Times Dispatch is more acute and lingering, given the technical structure of the article.

Who the heck was the editor on that story?

Not to mention "...was crushed..." Yes, running/jumping/standing in the way of a very large piece of EME will do that to you.

Witnesses say Corrie, wearing a fluorescent orange jacket and speaking through a bullhorn, was clearly visible to the bulldozer operator, who ran over her twice.

Ah! So the bulldozer was clearly visible to her? Case closed.

She and her family deserve no more consideration than a "Palestinian" suicide bomber's family.

I agree, but by making fun of her death we help fuel the leftist agenda. What purpose does it serve conservatism to make cruel jokes about Rachel or her family?

Sounds like an accident to me - one that could have been easily avoided if she'd known enough to stay out of the way of moving bulldozers.

And here her family is pissing and moaning that the U.S. government (with the exception of the ever-so-reliable State Department) is not treating it the way they would a suicide bombing? When Israelis go out of their way to mow down Palestinian children on school buses, the U.S. will no doubt condemn it 1000 times more harshly than we do pali bombings.

Those idiots at DU have already linked onto this thread and are crying that we FReeps are so mean-spirited.

Hey Duers, let me fill you morons in on a few things. Rachel Corrie hated America, in a similar way that many of you do. The pics of her getting "run over" were highly suspect, seeing that we had several "before" pics and a few "after", but no "during", and the background of the pics were quite different from that of each other, making it unclear exactly what kind of propaghanda role was played in the whole incident. Bottom line is she sat down in front of a bulldozer, and guess what? That's right, nature took it's course and the big metal thing that weighed slightly more than she did won. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

You want mean-spirited, read your own DU website. Such caring and compassionate comments your dorks make regarding Bush, his wife, Rush, Ann Coulter, and any other member of the Bush Administration or theright-wing that you dislike. It's ALL personal attacks with you idiots, and has nothing to do with policy whatsoever. You've been called the "Angry Left". Well, that's wrong. You're not angry, you're seething with hatred. Every damn candidate you have running has his whole campaign built on the foundation of "I hate Bush. Join me." There's nothing substantative about anything your dimwits do. You're all smoke and mirrors, you haven't got the beginning of knowledge in knowing how to organize, and you're drowning in your own hatred towards those whom you disagree and towards yourselves. That's right, you hate yourselves for being so damn stupid.

Grow the f**k up, you DU Morons (pardon the redundancy)!!

You don't see purpose here?
It is our purpose to NOT be persuaded to sympathize with terrorists, dead or alive, or their families, nor to be fooled by propaganda designed to portray their cause as peaceful. She lived amidst violence, taught violence and hatred to foreign children, and she died violently. We see it. The rest of the world needs to see it, too. It is our purpose to tell the truth about "peace activism" - it is DEADLY. It gets no sympathy, no mourning, no tears, no believers from us. It is SCORNED here.

As I posted about Rachel when her parents did the arafat support thing for her picture, we constantly drill operators and people on the ground if you expect to survive on the ground you have to make eye to eye contact.

There are many factors that limit the view of the operator and limit his/her knowlege of the ground situation. If there is no eye to eye contact don't move around or near the equipment. One time is not sufficient either. It is a constant ongoing process

Rachel committed suicide through ignorance and stupidity and the same factors, plus the propaganda ministry promoting this martyrdom insanity just keep it going.

There is only one side to this and it aint palestinian. I hope to tone my attitude down some. The Creator states that those who curse the Jews will be cursed and it can rest at that as they call down their own destiny.

IMO Hillary's beyond redemption, but I still wouldn't exult at her violent demise.
I'm a parent. My child, about Rachel's age, has been foolish and survived, by the grace of God, learned from her errors and is leading a good life, the fruits of which are limited only by God's continued grace. The foolish Rachel who has died young, might have lived to the benefit of the whole world, or of one lost soul, or just her own priceless soul. We should mourn that loss, and I do.
I hurt for her parents, who knew her better than we do, knew she was more than that brief episode of political naivete. She was, like each of us, precious beyond measure. Their grief will never diminish in this life, and to mock their tragedy is heartless, to say the least.
