NASHUA Rep. Dennis Kucinich spoke yesterday of the fear paralyzing America under the Bush administration, a message delivered with a little help from a man sporting baggy pants and a handlebar mustache.
The Democratic Presidential candidate joined a celebrity supporter, street clown and physician Hunter Patch Adams, at a Nashua campaign stop yesterday, each taking shots at the Bush administrations national security efforts.
Kucinich blamed the administration for spreading fear this holiday season when it raised the countrys terror alert from elevated to high last week.
Were back to duct tape and plastic, Kucinich said, conjuring an image from last February when Homeland Security officials advised Americans to stock their home with emergency supplies during a heightened security alert.
Were getting lulled into a false sense of insecurity, he told the crowd, which included several dozen supporters and undecided voters.
Nashua couple Tim DesClos and Victoria Tane offered their home at 23 Auburn St. for the event.
Kucinich said the administration used fear to bring the country to war in Iraq and to garner support for the Patriot Act, the anti-terrorism bill passed after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Now, he said, this government feels free to inject it into the holiday season.
This is the time to put an end to fear. Thats what my candidacy is about: the end of fear and the beginning of hope, he said.
Adams, who arrived in tie-dyed eye glasses and long silver hair streaked with blue, also spoke of fear.
The founder and director of the Gesundheit Institute, a free health facility in West Virginia, made several appearances around the state yesterday on behalf of Kucinich out of intense concern and discomfort for this horrible government, he said.
He called Kunich a love candidate, and dismissed the notion that such a title should be a stigma.
The love candidate might not sound strong enough to some who seek a President who is tough on national security, he said. Yet I know it is the strongest thing there is.
Adams endorsed Kucinichs plan to create a federal Department of Peace and cheered his support for universal single-payer healthcare.
Kucinich called healthcare the most significant domestic issue facing the country, and criticized former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean for not going far enough in his support of health care reform.
Hes a doctor. He ought to know better, Kucinich said.
Kucinich also pitched his strategy to remove U.S. forces from Iraq, which would call on the United Nations to take over control of Iraqs oil resources and bear responsibility for handing out business contracts there.
He pointed to a news clipping on General Electric, the manufacturing and communications conglomerate that said this week it expects large profits from its contributions to the Iraqi reconstruction effort. GE owns the NBC, CNBC and MSNBC television networks.
When the media is also involved in defense contracts, were in trouble, Kucinich said. He promised if elected to ensure all media companies divest of any defense contracts.
Kucinich described himself as the only Democrat with a strategy for removing U.S. troops from Iraq. The distinction won him praise from Merrimack resident Janis Cosby, whose son-in-law, David Voight, was recently mobilized with the New Hampshire National Guard for a mission in Iraq.
Hes fine, but were scared. I just want to skip the heck out of there, Cosby said. I dont know if we belonged there anyway.
My opinion was that the root cause of WW2 was three things. The Great Depression, The Versailles Treaty and the Age of the Dictators. The tinder that started the fires was the appeasement of Germany's neighbors to avoid any type of conflict at the expense of many unfortunate people.
United States wasn't immune to this. We were sick and tired of Europe's problems and WW1. Any polician that dared mention anything but neutrality would have been appeached. In fact, at one point, our Congress was actually thinking of an amendment to the US Constitution that we cannot declare war until confirmed by a majority vote by a nationwide referendum.
There are a lot of similarities between Hitler and Saddam. What would happen if Bush Sr. and Jr. didn't stop Saddam? The answer is, 50 million people should not have died if the world stood up to Hitler.
Saddam planned to conquer the richest oil regions of the world, he was pursuing nuclear weapons until Israelis bombed his plant, and Saddam shown the willingness to use biological/chemical weapons on the Kurds and Iranians.
What in God's name is Dennis Kucinich and the other appeasers waiting for? An engraved invitation?
I take my daughter to dance lessons at a local church hall.
There's a car just like that, covered with Kucinich stickers, NARAL, Save the Whales, etc.
It's the Pastor's car.
Be a hero save a whale,
save a baby, go to jail
I don't think that Dennis Kucinich (D-OZ) gets near enough coverage in the main stream media.
...but 'the little commie bastard' didn't focus test well.

Must be that the heroic factor is bassed solely upon weight and swimming ability !!! ;-))
