THE PERSECUTION OF RUSH GOES ON MARK A SITY 12/26/03

Years ago, Brett Favre had a problem with pain killers. He was buying them illegally after a prescription ran out for after an injury that still hurt. He became addicted. After the news came out, he apologized to his fans, went into treatment, and all was right with the world. Not a soul seems to be interested in investigating Ozzy Osbourne’s drug use, but there might be a reason for this. Ozzy seems to be attempting to prove the theory of evolution by devolving into lower forms of life before our eyes. Ozzie is an interesting scientific experiment.

Yet, Rush Limbaugh is reported to have a problem with an addiction to pain killers, admits it and goes into treatment, and all is still not right with the world. Rumors are reported first that he’s part of a drug ring investigation. Ok, it seems this is true in that his name turned up as a customer. Then rumors were reported that he was buying these prescription pain killers in 1000+ lots. Then rumors were reported that he was involved in selling the drugs (like he really needs the money!). Then it was money laundering. Now he is under investigation for the very serious crime of “DOCTOR SHOPPING”. It seems this is a huge crime in Florida.

This makes me wonder. If I take my family to Florida for a vacation, and our daughter hurts herself, let’s say she hurts her leg. Being from Wisconsin we wouldn’t know who the good FL doctors are and who the quacks are. We’d probably take her to the closest doctor. So let’s say we get Dr Quack. Dr Quack takes her into the X-ray room, and comes out with an X ray showing a hairline fracture in her calf bone. We would assume a leg cast is in order. Dr Quack comes back with not the plaster cart, but a laughing gas cart and then pulls out a big meat saw. Dr Quack tells us he will have to amputate her leg for the hairline fracture. If we decide to take her out of the office (with both legs attached) and look for a second opinion are we in violation of FL law for “DOCTOR SHOPPING”?

I don’t claim to have any inside information on Rush’s situation, but drawing on what he has said, it seems that he had a painful back problem and went to Dr Quack. Dr Quack recommended surgery. Dr Quack messed up the surgery. Dr Quack prescribed a pain killer to Rush for temporary relief of a long term problem. Dr Quack’s prescription ran out on Rush, leaving him in debilitating pain. Rush knew the pain killer could allow him mobility, and Dr Quack offered no option other than permanent debilitating pain for the rest of his natural life. It seems to me that Rush should have been “doctor shopping” a long time ago!

Why is Rush on trial here, without even any charges being filed? Shouldn’t Dr Quack be the one being investigated for leading an innocent victim down the path of lawlessness and drug use? Where is the AMA? Could it be that they, along with the press have an anti-Rush agenda? Nah, couldn’t be. If I believed that I’d be one of the black helicopter conspiracy types then, wouldn’t I?

I found the quote and he did in fact say he had checked himself in for treatment.

I must have heard him at a different time.

Too bad he did not think the problem was so serious at the time that he did not give it the effort he finally put into it - I don't recall him being off for more then a few days before...

He was so addicted he, likely, caused his own deafness - even though it was widely known (and he is on the cutting edge of societal evolution and in command of all the facts)that abuse of Oxycontin caused deafness - he ate oxycontin and other narcotics the way Ted Kennedy drinks -to deadly excess.

Rush ought to thank the cops. Were it not for fear of the slamer, he'd be dead. If not now, then soon.

It is another to whine about everyone else to deflect fault from yourself. Then to top it off still get on the radio whine some more then give his listeners a lesson about the personal/political faults of others.

What makes it worse for me is that I like Rush, so throw severe disappointment into the mix. It's almost like a WWII soldier finding out that Patton's really a coward when it came to actual combat.

He made a huge deal of his golf vacations. But his back hurt so much...:)

We are supposed to swallow that "reason" for drug addiction with the same alacrity he was swallowing illegally obtained narcotics.

He had his illegal fun so he has no reason to make complaints now. "Can't do the time don't do the crime," apply only to poor blacks?

I did say accused, not charged...

I guess this is what we get when journalists get a little bored..

I think Rush is having the same problem most do when under investigation... The media can be harsh and "The speculation channel" with it's breaking news and "This just in..." can be painful...

However, the question was, assuming he committed this crime that is being investigated, should he be jailed? and if he did not, should he sue?... My concern is that a civil suit may put him in more of a jam because I am sure some very inappropriate questions would be asked during his deposition...

Have you ever heard of a drug fiend admitting his addiction and taking personal responsibility for it prior to his reaching bottom?

Rush likely caused his own deafness and still hadn't reached bottom. Were it not for the cops and this prosecutor, Rush might be dead.

And I think that unless he is being investigated for a crime that has a mandatory minimum, he should not have to worry about jail time... First time offender, etc...

Doctor shopping and structuring are, IIRC from previous threads, felonies in Florida. Pretty amazing, huh? Go Drug War!

Most people here the Drug Warriors accuse of being "anarchists" or "liberdopians" would be VERY happy to just go back to the size of government and laws that existed before the Socialist New Deal

She is a black congressman) made the charge the CIA was introducing Cocaine to addict the black youths in the inner cities - Rush made the sensible comment - "Then they should not cooperate in their own destruction. Don't take the drugs." He should have listened to his own advice

This 'Rush is a victim of a vast leftwing conspiracy' is claptrap and that defense is totally opposed to all the principles Rush espoused. You are doing him no favor by not insisting he be measured by the same standards he applied to others.

Then you must have some major problem with Rush's comments just after the Enquirer story hit...

I respect that...

I have seen rampant speculation on other cases (not necessarily by you)...

BTW, just my opinion that this may end up being nothing from a criminal case standpoint, but the questions being raised and the needless pain being inflicted on him while he is under investigation and trying to make a living and do a good job and deal with his health problems... I hope he has strong shoulders...

They apparently got a search warrant for the records by misrepresenting the evidence. Also, if you don't think there are judges in PBC who would love to embarrass Rush at minimum, or preferably, ruin him, then you must also beleive in Santa Claus.
