U.S. Has Flight Numbers of Specific Hijack Targets

Intelligence gathered by Homeland Security and Defense Department officials that caused terror alert levels to be elevated on Sunday included specific airline flight numbers targeted for hijacking by al Qaeda as well as the names of airports involved in the plot.

"U.S. intelligence agencies had gathered detailed information about the plan, in which they said al Qaeda operatives would hijack foreign airliners and fly them into targets in the United States," reported NBC News late Tuesday. "In some instances, the intelligence is so detailed as to include specific flight numbers," the network said.

"Federal air marshals, who usually fly only on domestic flights, are now boarding international airlines into those airports," NBC revealed.

U.S. officials said the highly detailed intelligence includes the name of at least one East Coast airport : New Jersey's Newark International, where incoming flights are being closely watched.

In addition to large urban centers like New York and Los Angeles, al-Qaeda is also believed to be targeting Las Vegas, according to the network's sources. Las Vegas is the nation's No. 2 vacation destination and is scheduled to host a number of large conventions and trade shows beginning next month.

Surface-to-air missiles have been deployed by the Pentagon to many of the cities most likely to be targeted.

Mafia? What mafia? There's no such thing...Mayor Goodman will assure you so. He's an expert in the subject.

Ask him personally!

One also has to worry that some plane that is slightly off course with no malicous intent will be blown out to the sky if the military percieves them as a threat.

Now is not a good time to make navigational errors, is it?

If the pilot is AQ, and on final at 300 feet, and veers into a target (terminal), who you gonna call?

We'll at that point I suppose "Ghost Busters" would be the only choice.

P.S. I don't know how to correctly post the original post to which I am commenting on.

Ah yes, you are forgetting one thing........those re-enforced steel doors to keep terrorists out of the cockpit.

There are ways to open those doors.

My question to anyone viewing this thread:

Do you really think it's still possible to hijack an airplane? I don't give a damn if they've got UZIs with them. If they can still pull off hijacking a plane full of passengers given what we know about what happened on 9/11/2001, then this country no longer deserves to exist, because its people have become mindless and worthless drones incapable of rubbing 2 brain cells together.

What a comfort. Thank goodness they didn't go ahead with arming the majority of pilots. Somebody on the plane might get hurt.

I would hope we get the terrorists before we have to shoot innocent victims out of the sky.

"There are ways to open those doors."

And just what are those ways? It's not like the passengers have a long telephone pole in the cabin and they can then use all their collective muscle to pound the doors open like a bunch of barbarics crossing the mote to gain access to the Castle.

Don't discount the possibility that this is misinformation that is being fed to the press while we get the bandits in our cross hairs..we can only hope.

The mafia is still in Vegas, but relegated to running the unions. The really big money boys pushed them out of casino ownership. But, when you think about it, they're kinda the new mafia lol

InterceptPoint is right. If the only information we have is that they want to hijack flights around a certain time, the best way to scare them off is to make them think that some part of their operation is compromised.

Agreed.
