Blackwill may succeed Rice in a 2nd Bush term: Post Washington, Dec. 23 (PTI): Former US Ambassador to India Robert Blackwill, may succeed Condoleeza Rice as National Security Adviser if President George W Bush wins a second term, according to a media report.
Describing Blackwill as a "foreign policy guru", the Washington Post, quoting senior officials in the US administration says "as a strategic planner, he has free rein to think, track global trends, predict the unnoticed or unintended consequences of US policy decisions anywhere in the world".
"Blackwill has been with the team of the present President from the beginning. Under Rice, he was one of a coterie who had advised George W Bush during all the latest campaigns. The Ambassadorship to India was his reward", an article in the Post said today.
At present acting as Rice's Coordinator for Strategic Planning, Blackwill also handles three of the trickiest foreign policy challenges facing the Bush White House--Iraq's political transformation, Afghanistan and Iran, it noted.
Recalling Blackwill's two-year stint in India, the Post notes "he oversaw one of the fastest transformations in relations between the US and any country. India was under US economic sanctions because of its 1998 nuclear tests and was considered a "nuclear renegade whose policies threatened the entire nonproliferation regime.
"By the time he left, sanctions had been lifted and cooperation between India and the United States flourished on issues ranging from counter-terrorism to the HIV/AIDS crisis. And the U.S. and Indian militaries were engaged in almost monthly joint training exercises.

Notice the article says nothing about where she would go or be moved to. VP would be incredible.

That's two votes. To go much farther, she has to win elective office.

Condi Rice in 2008.

I think Condi is qualified to be Prez, but I agree that it is unlikely she would win without first holding a lower elected office. I would think Governor would be a better launching pad than the Senate, but presuming she'd run in her home state, I don't know if she'd want to go against Ah-nuld for Cauli-four-knee-uh gov.

Blackwill is a pain in the neck. He had nothing to do with the sanctions being lifted- an inevitability. He routinely antagonized his counterparts in India. I read some of his speeches which were pretentious and lacked substance. He is your standard Ivy League professor gasbag. Condi, while also professorial, is also grounded in reality and substantitive.

I don't know if she'd want to go against Ah-nuld for Cauli-four-knee-uh gov. I wasn't paying attention... did Arnold win a 4-year term, or just the remainder of Davis' term? I have my doubts that Arnold will want more of it once the novelty wears off. It's not like he needs a job.

Hmmmm?? I hate to see all her talents wasted on a Senate position. I have no idea where she would go if not VP or State Dept.

"And where would Condi go? Veep?""State Dept?"
Either of those would be good. Frankly, though the propaganda "points" of having her as the first black, female VP would be high, I think she could actually accomplish FAR more good for the country by replacing wishy-washy Colin Powell at State.

Condi should run for the Senate Seat in California. After that, the first female, black Pres?
