Arnie to terminate health care benefits

Young moms and concerned doctors on Thursday attacked Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's mooted health cuts, saying they could devastate local services for low income, immigrant groups.

The activists accused Schwarzenegger of hypocrisy for running on a campaign of expanding health care coverage for children, then promptly announcing $2 billion in health cuts over two years to help compensate for revenue lost after he repealed the vehicle license fee.

The cuts would hack 10 percent from Medi-Cal and freeze enrollment for all children in the Healthy Families program with separate caps for citizen and undocumented children.

Healthy Families is a scheme providing insurance for 677,000 children from low-income families throughout the state, and the proposed cuts could leave 130,000 children on an insurance waiting list in the first year, according to figures obtained from the state Department of Finance.

Women without legal immigrant standing will lose access to prenatal care, long-term care and treatment for breast and cervical cancer, health groups at a Mission district press conference said. This group is most vulnerable to the cuts, said Gladys Sandlin, executive director of the Mission Health Center. Many illegal women are working multiple jobs to keep their heads above water, she said, and would be most hit by the cuts.

"I'm not asking for charity, Medi-Cal isn't charity," she said."It's a right."

Activists argue that barring low-income immigrants access to the programs won't save the state much cash and will end up costing California more when sick families are forced to resort to the hospital emergency room.

Young single mom Raquel Cardenas is stressed at the thought of her 11-month-old daughter Erely catching this season's virulent strain of flu because the San Francisco Health Plan they rely on may become a casualty of funding cuts.

"It would be devastating for us to have to find our own doctor because I only work part time and I couldn't afford $1,000 bills," she said. "If he cuts us, we'll only be spending more time in the [hospital] emergency room."

Idol worshipping isn't attractive.

Thanks for capturing my thoughts about the "I voted for McClintock" gang.

Nope! there is nothing in here about public subsidized Medical care

Subsidized? SUBSIDIZED?

More like "publicly provided Medical care."

"Ain't no" subsidy involved, we're paying for all of it.

Schwarzenfraud is a joke. He takes little baby steps on spending cuts while saddling the next generation with enormous bond debt.

"little baby steps"...? HUH? 2 Billion is more like 13.4% of that bond debt. And that is no "baby step".

And making California a less alluring Socialist Paradise for the illiterate masses streaming northward from Mexico expecting to find Karl Marx beaming at them on the border and waving them in could initially SAVE MORE THEN 15 BILLION IN SHORT ORDER.

That 2 Billion will have trickle down effects all across the economy in the Peoples Republic of California.

Of course the illegals have already been advised to make emergency rooms their doctors offices in case something like this happens.

Guess we'll just have to see some proper ID or an insurance card before your childs extra load of boogers that day is declared to be due to just too much bugspray or chile dust in the air.

I cannot get free medical help on a walk in without proper ID and insurance docs. Why the hell should MEXICANS be able to do it?

Typical liberal whining. Force a bloated government program mostly for the benefit of the bureaucrats to be more efficient and live within a budget and they scream bloddy murder.

If they are worried about cuts to beneficiaries, maybe they could look at their bloated salaries and benefits, overhead, unchecked spending and their lack of accountability before just immediately assuming it comes from what's left over to hand out to "the people", most of whom don't deserve a dime.

"I'm not asking for charity, Medi-Cal isn't charity," she said."It's a right."

These are the kind of people that need to be put up against the wall when the revolution comes. There is no cure for this type of extreme social pathology.

If MediCal is her "right", I claim my "right" to put my foot up her ass.

That's right. Then what happens? Well, you see, Americans will get their healthcare cut.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Either we do something about the causes of demand or the costs will be there, and in some cases the costs will be higher because of these cuts. Cutting preventative care for kids makes no sense at all.

An 'excellence in posting' bump to that.

I think she has confused about the meaning of the Second Ammendment.

Medi Cal is the same as medicaid in most states. There is only so much that the federal government will allow states to cut.

I was in Alabama this summer when a RINO governor tried to pass a tax increase. He threatened the elderly in nursing homes saying that the state would have to increase the age limits for admissions therefore some of the elderly would have to leave the nursing homes. People then started questioning the illegal aliens right to health care. It was announced that the feds would not let the state cut medicaid for the illegals.

I think Arnold or McClintock will have this same problem. The only thing that Arnold will be allowed to cut will be the state funded programs such as Healthy Families where the recipients pay monthly fees. It will be interesting to see what the caps are for a 3 year old illegal and a 3 year old American.

Nah, Arnold isn't doing anything, he's just another RINO, right?

Right, the same as a Democrat.

Go Ahnold!

And so have a lot of others. My experience a couple of years ago really opened my eyes to this abuse.

The article stated

...$2 billion in health cuts over two years...

That represents about 1.5% of the general fund.
Definitely a baby step....
A drop in the bucket compared to the spending problem.
It's a start, but we've got a long way to go.

Hey Gladys, show me exactly where in the Constitution of the United States of America that this "right" is defined.

And by the way, Gladys...how do you feel about us law-abiding citizens keeping and bearing arms? That IS a right! But bleeding hearts like you keep telling us it's not.

Frickin' moron...

Expect to see picketers protesting this and other cuts to come.

Expect me to not give a flying fig about it. If they want to fund those services so damned bad, let 'em pay out of their own pocketbooks.
