Embattled lawmaker Karen McCarthy a Democrat from Kansas City will retire after 10 years in Congress to seek 'tranquility.'
'I want to focus on balance in my life,' she said.
'Too often, I've put my career and helping others ahead of my own needs. I made sacrifices willingingly, it is what I did best.' McCarthy did not return telephone calls to her home and cellphone Sunday from the Associated Press.
McCarthy's decent began last March with a drunken fall on a Capitol Hill escalator. It ended amid allegiations fist reported by the Associated Press, that she misused her staff and her campaign for personal gain, such as several trips to the Grammy Awards.
McCarthy came under fire when former aides spoke out in interviews with AP saying she went to the Grammys in New York City and stayed in the historic Waldorf Astoria on the campaign dime, which violates House conduct rules and federal election rules.
Aides also said she used them as personal chauffeurs to and from work and on personal errands, which is against federal law.
Travel documents obatained by the AP back up those claims.

Would this be the HST district if HST were still living? If so, it is Democrat to the core.

I made sacrifices willingingly, it is what I did best.' ugh.... don't these people have PR people to run these statements by first? .... this, in essence, is what all liberals think about themselves ... of course the biggest sacrifices they'v made are the 35,000,000+ babies upon the altar of liberalism(selfishness)

It is and the local Dims (sponsored by The Kansas City Star) are proposing former Mayor Beaver Cleaver run for that seat. Probably a lock for him. Too bad.

"Beaver Cleaver" -- is this Jerry Mathers, living in Kansas City, or a nickname of a local politician? It must be the latter.
At any rate, KC, MO is a place where people believe in "democracy."

I imagine a lot of people would get the McCarthy female representative MO confused with the one from the NYC suburbs.
