I'm giving ammo this Christmas

I hope the terrorists will think before they act. They do not want to bring more wrath upon themselves.

As my wife and daughter spend their days 2 miles from a nuclear power plant, I always sweat a little more when they move the level up.

The financial district was sure on "high orange" the last time I was in NYC. Unless they've always had black-clad, helmeted, weapon-carrying teams at Wall & Broad. (I had never been to NYC before 9/11/01.)

My nieces would appreciate their annual gift of designer perfume. Ammo would put me on the "evil aunt" list.

Until our borders are closed, nobody is going to take Tom Ridge and his Committee for Homeland Security seriously.

As several FReepers have pointed out, out security depends on vigilant and prepared Americans - not a bunch of unionized bureaucrats on overtime.

Sure she wasn't referring to some threads on FR?

Rob,

FYI, the terror warning was to be raised Friday but was delayed from Admin officials based on common good.....

The financial impact to the US economy from this weekends missed shopping would be outwieghed by the threat. Besides, the attack is puported to occur between Christmas and New Years.....

The terror alert is more for civil defense coordination than for the general public consumption.....

Maybe they're talking about Saddam's capture?

Now who wants to guess on which congressman/woman, Senator will say something about how much it costs the states when the threat level is changed.

Pelosi(sp) (D-ca) gets my vote.

I'm with you. I personally think it is irresponsible to not take the alert program seriously. It is all we have and frankly the best the government can do to notify us of danger. I haven't heard of any other ideas and until I do I plan on respecting the program.

So what are we supposed to do?

I'm so sick of people asking this question. Why don't you do a little looking for the answer?

1. Go to this site: American Red Cross Homeland Security Advisory System Recommendations for Individuals, Families, Neighborhoods, Schools, and Businesses

2. Click on the chart of threat levels and you will get a detailed explanation of what individuals should do at each threat level. When you get the popup window, click on any color box and you'll see exactly what you should do.

3. Get back to us when you check it out.

The chatter level is usually high on FR. ;)

I believe she said it was high for months now, the longest it's been high since Sept. 11, 2001. When you combine that with the unusual activity in the futures market, it seems to me like a good time to raise the threat level to orange.

All the hunters on my list (and in our family, that's male & female) are getting hunting caps that reverse from camoflauge to blaze orange.

Does that make me "evil" or just "bad?"

Eh, nothing to worry about, IMHO. Other than with an atomic bomb, terrorists really can't do much of anything to a a nuclear plant, and if they had an atomic bomb, they wouldn't waste it on some nuke plant in a rural area. Nuclear plants are one of the least-viable "bang for the buck" targets out there, in the ratio of how well they are defended and what could possibly be accomplished by attacking one, which isn't much at all.
