MSNBC has a Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske's news conference on now. He's talking about a conference call with seven cities that happened before the Sec. Ridge news conference this afternoon. He looks calm and in control. Good news.

I don't think mocking the police is very helpful or responsible.

I'd rather disemploy half of their sorry asses. If we cut our numbers of police in half, we'd have about as many police per capita as Communist Police State Red Freakin' China.

You probably think there is nothing wrong with having twice as many police per capita as the PRC.

If I may ask, who is this Daleel guy, and why should we believe a single word he says? I see his ramblings posted around here constantly, but I've never seen anyone cite any proof that he has any connection to AQ at all. Anyone can start a Yahoo group and claim to be anyone, after all.

You are absolutely the sorriest excuse for a Freeper I have seen in some time. If you don't want to pay attention to the threat level, fine. Go read another thread and ignore this one.

Why cross the hot dessert and dodge drug dealers and crooked cops, when you fly directly into Logan Airport or cross the bridge into the US at Windsor, Canada. Give us a break, lamebrain.

I don't know why, why don't you ask the ones who there are already credible reports of having done it, Einstein?

Chris: Why are you losing ground? You've lost 2% points since the last survey.

Dick: Uhhh, well, ah, it's George Bush's fault yadayadayada

so let me get this straight, you want every passenger on air flights to have guns?

No, only those who meet four requirements:

  1. Have a CCW permit
  2. Have their handgun loaded with frangible bullets
  3. Have had training on the use of a firearm in an airliner
  4. Are willing

Airline pilots support this idea, too, in case you hadn't noticed. An armed passenger cabin is a polite passenger cabin.

But for those of you who are afraid of guns, you should be free to fly on a disarmed airline if you want to. Let the free market decide which is safer.

It pisses me off when these yahoos get on TV and start the "GW Suks because Here is where we are weak, (are ya listening AQ?)anybody could take advantage of our Blah blah blah!"

Idiots who would risk security for the sake of polls. Argg!

If I were to become a politician rather than a citizen, that would raise the average IQ of both categories.

MSNBC talking head asks Bernard Kerik how the local governments will pay for this higher level of security mandated by the federal government?
The former NYC Police Commissioner said they can pay now or pay later. If we spent the money we should have spent after the 1993 WTC attack, we would have saved billions in 2001.
How true!

Great, now it will be almost impossible to do any plane spotting over the holidays. It is bad enough when the terror alert is Yellow but when it goes to Orange, airport employees and police go into Gestapo mode.

Now that would definitely be a disturbing event. The country pretty much shuts down at code red.

The one thing about the news conference that disturbed me was when a reporter asked Ridge why, if they had such a substantial increase in credible information about potential attacks, they only jumped to orange instead of red. Ridge stood there, frozen, for a good five seconds or so, working over in his mind a perfectly formulated non-response response to the question before opening his mouth.

I couldn't help but be left with the inference that a jump straight to code red was given very serious consideration by these guys during those 72 hours of deliberation.

Keep her and protect her as you always have, nmh. I agree with you, and feel sorry for the kids these days for what they have to put up with. I guess the early kids of the late 50's/early 60's had similar fears with bomb shelters and Cuban missiles. May God bless your little girl and shroud her, you, and your family with His love and protection this Christmas season.

Ditto kstewskis. I recall 'duck & cover' during elementary school in New Orleans during Cuban crisis...maybe that's why some of us are a little more tightly wound on these alerts. nmh...I wish I could protect my niece and nephews (all under 8) like you want to protect your little girl. Stay vigilant, prepared and in prayer.<><

Great. So the same donut munchers manning the speed traps, failing to solve even 10% of burglaries, and burning down churches are supposed to heed this alert and be effective at preventing something?

All cops solve 10% of the burglaries AND all cops burn down churches? Your above sentence structure implies that.

That's his natural expression. Don't try and read anything into it. Someone could have asked him where he parked his car this morning and the response would have been identical.

That caught my attention too. Tom Ridge was doing a pretty good job of reassuring me that the government was on top of the situation, right up to that final question.
