They tell me that a sense of humor is invaluable, especially when you're in harm's way. That's fine. But having 100 or so people telling the same identical joke on cue everytime there's a report about possibile terrorist activity just isn't funny. It's lazy and mindless.

something big is happening to cancel all those vacations. I take this very seriously...Something that couldn't wait until Monday, no doubt.

If the government was serious about doing anything, they would have already resurrected the Civil Defense organization of the 50s and embarked upon a training and preparedness program among the local populations. They would have activated the state militias to stand watch in various places. They would have locked down the borders with Mexico and Canada. The Big Boys have spent a lot of our tax money on hardened shelters with layered defenses, air-filtration, etc and they're surrounded by cops with automatic weapons
They're pretty safe from attack-the rest of us are much lower priority

Good thing I'm getting bullets for Christmas. Nothing like celebrating the birth of Christ by killing some terroists.

I think you are supposed to keep your eyes open if you are in an airport, on a plane, on a boat in a river near a damn, near a nuclear power plant. If you are sitting at home posting on your puter, I think you can stand down and boil water if it helps make your tea.

Given the fact that this should have been done years ago; I say better late than never. More than likely a grassroots revival will be necessary to force action from our sorry elected officials and recall elections to push the deadbeats out of office. We the People are still in charge after all is said and done;excuses don't matter and we shouldn't mind ushering them out of their Ivory Palaces!

And, if an attack takes place, Clark will be able accuse Dean of knowing about the attack before it happened." LOL. Should something happen, it might strengthen Dean's position in warning that we aren't any safer than we were before 9/11.

Those of us who have worked in high pressure situations have learned to use humor to keep our emotional balance
Those who get wound too tightly tend to snap

Well, Sinky, had the Packers been playing today instead of tomorrow night, I'd be watching them and not any cable news channels.

Very frightening. I do believe that they are going to try the simultaneous strikes they have been bragging about for months.
To: WackyKat
I don't see anyone wound up too tight. The reflex bash homeland security does get old and takes up bandwidth. We need two threads,,one for wisecracking and one for analyzing the news as we see it.

OK, so what're we supposed to do? Boil water??? Sure, boil some water, have a cup of tea and take a look at Ready.gov for more information.

I think it was Neil Livingston of Global Options that I heard at 1 PM. Also, on the 3 PM CBS radio news I believe he said authorities will be checking the specificity and may have to raise it to the highest level. Does anyone know about Neil Livingston? He's a highly regarded terrorism expert-I would take what he says seriously

What's that image in the top left? I can't decide if its the sun or if its an image of north and south America.

no offense intended ... but, I think it's the non-specificity of these alerts that is the problem ... what shall we do at Orange that we don't do at Yellow? ... our enemies plot for surprise ... they were here sometimes for years, before they executed ...

I think law enforcement responds to the color, not us. But we don't want to hear a rumor from our brother in law the cop about the govt warning the cops and not us so they tell us.

I don't know what the image in the top left is -- it could be AQ's version of the Earth being destroyed by their nukes.
