spent 26 years in the Army to and thru retirement and it was just a matter of fact that lower graded enlisted were almost never issued a sidearm. I spent 13 years in and the closest I came to a sidearm was an M3 to go with my M16.
Cool factor was way high though :-)

I ran the first two guy's names on military.com's buddy finder and neither one came up. I've always found at least a name when looking someone up on there. No Bratton and no Prsyner. The guy is a liar.

HA HA!!! I was just thinking the same thing--- I didn't catch the whole thing, but what I saw had me rolling on the floor laughing-- did they have that disgusting waste of flesh to a "T" or what? I had to call my husband at work to tell him what he missed!!!

I have no doubt that most if not all the letters are genuine. As previously stated, the military is a large organization. Just because a few dissaffected military folks wrote The Great White Whale, don't think it's the end of the world.
As far as the people themselves, MI enlisted are a very easygoing group of geeks, misfits and genuises...
Wow! You've either been there or know! I was thinking along the same lines as I was reading the letters. As a matter of fact, one of the letter writers, Mike Prysner, as discovered by the poster anonymous user, apparently went to AIT at Ft Huachuca. So I think you're on to something :-)

Aside from the fact that I consider Michael Moore to be little more than a mendacious con artist, we must expect that every field army will contain enough people who are liberal Democrats to fall for MM's bullsh*t.
History is already proving us right, of course, and it will prove Moore and the Appeasement lobby to have been altogether wrong in just about everything they stood for.
Moore's side is losing the war, and that's what makes him so sad. The problem with the War on Terror is that Bush is conducting it. If Bush were not conducting the war, Moore would either be supportive or ambivalent. He's simply not honest enough with himself and his audience to admit it.
As it stands, this is a window into the Conventional Wisdom of the Left. It doesn't sell with the Public because the public understands that the Left is peddling a lie.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

I can not address the subject of Michael Moore without risking my priveleges on this website.

Interesting info on Google for the second letter writer in the list, Mike Prysner.
He shows up as a writer in a couple of places, and in the Army, but look at his attitude here in this piece:

The Community Center Committee standing left to right are Diane Wells, Luiza Holtzberg, Virginia Larrea-La Tourette, Chair Lisa McCallister-Grant, Mike Prysner and Rick O'Keefe. Not pictured is Jon Stein.

So I think you're on to something :-) That does not surprise me one iota. No one whines better, complains longer, or shams harder than MI. Amongst ourselves it's not as noticiable, but when we work with other people it can be pretty embarassing.
Just to get the right clearance level you need to have a flawless background and no major vices. This basically weeds out everyone but computer nerds, Mormons and good liars. While the bulk of us shady bastards are simply good liars, the sad fact is many people who are good liars are predisposed to be liberal. Nature of the beast, I guess.

Disgusting. This pig is taking advantage of a bunch of kids who sound uncertain about the central issues of their own lives, much less the political aspects of a war. They're a bunch of devotees to Moore, already misinformed by the nonsense he spews beforehand, else they wouldn't be writing to him. And then he goes and tries to pump up his own jackassed conspiracy theories with their words.
"I joined the army as soon as I was eligible turned down a writing scholarship to a state university, eager to serve my country, ready to die for the ideals I fell in love with. Two years later I found myself moments away from a landing onto a pitch black airstrip, ready to charge into a country I didn't believe I belonged in, with your words (from the Oscars) repeating in my head."
Sick.
There is a war for profit going on, but it's Michael Moore v. Reality.

Complete and utter BS. The military consists mostly of conservative Republicans. Ask AlGore why he wanted to throw out the military absentee ballots. Being in the military, I can tell you that the vast majority of troops have a deep respect for President Bush, and believe we are doing the right thing. If the emails are authentic, so be it. But I can honestly say that they represent a very small minority of troops that have bought into the democrats message. That, and they were probably "starstruck" by a certain Senator.
To: Conservative til I die
This is total BS. First of all, someone writing from Iraq couldn't get the letter here before December 25th. NO WAY NO HOW!
To: Conservative til I die
The military should investigate all the emails from the front as a security risk. Moore is definitly the loose lips that sink ships.
To: Conservative til I die
I am sure that these letters are as true an accurate as anything and everything done by this jerk.

There are strict rules about what the soldiers can and can not say. If there really are soldiers at "the front" writing this stuff to Moore, it is a breach of security.
I doubt very much Moore is actually checking the sources of the letters. I could write him one which says they are setting up an area 54 annex in Iraq and he would believe it.

When I was in the 101st, there was a group of about 5 of us that were very tight. All except one were Republican. On the nights we got together for adult beverages it would invariably end-up with an "in your face" shouting match with this one guy over Reagan and the Republicans vs Dems.
It really was all in good fun though :-)

"I was recently discharged with Honorable valor...""However, it's probably just the generic phrase."Honorable valor? What the devil is that? That has never been a phrase in the lexicon of GIs. "Good paper", "honorable discharge", "clean sheet" ... those are the only ones I've ever heard in more than 22 years active service and 8 years DoA civil service. Sorry, but that one, specifically, is a bolo.
It may have been a generic phrase even as late as Vietnam, but I haven't heard that one since the late 70's. I'm inclined to think that that one is a troll as well.

"I spent 13 years in and the closest I came to a sidearm was an M3 to go with my M16."They gave me a .45 to go along with my M-60. Never had to use it though ... my little baby and I got along just fine. She never jammed on me, and, since I "liberated" a base maintenance cleaning/repair kit, I kept her shiny and smoothly-operating.
Carried that sucker from '75 to '78 when I made buck sergeant. They wouldn't let me carry it after that.

Saturday night MADTV did a brilliant sketch about Moore...it portrayed him as he really is and was hysterical.
To: Conservative til I die
The fact that he is able to list the ages of all those who "wrote" him tells me this is BS. Maybe one in 10, unless they are under age 10, would include their age in a letter to anyone. Most adults realize that it would be an irrelevant fact and not even think about putting it in there.
Reading this seems to me Mikey got the idea from ZOOM.
"Dear ZOOM,
You have taught me so much about stuff, I think you are great.
Sara, Age 9
Cambrige, Mass."
See what I mean?
