Joe Namath Drunk Interview On ESPN's Patriots-Jets Game Saturday Night?
ESPN ^

Did anyone see Joe Namath's sideline interview with the female reporter-babe during the second quarter of the Pats-Jets game?
She was asking him about Chad Pennington, and he talked to her like Chad was going to lead them to a championship...of course, the Jets aren't going anywhere now...and his speech was very deliberate and slow.
"He's either drunk or he has some kind of disease", I said to my mate.
The very next question, the woman (I didn't catch her name) asked him about how great it was being a QB as a Jet...and Namath started smiling and leaning around her...she kept her distance as best she could as she held the mic up to Joe.
"I wanna kiss you!" Namath blurted...before he got some more composure, spoke about the team looking forward to next year...then ended with the same line "I really wanna kiss you!" or something like that.
The girl said, "Thank you Joe, I'll take that as a compliment."
The announcers were silent for a second, then one of them said, "Joe is a fun guy..."
Kind of reminded me of the story of Howard Cosell getting sauced in the booth during a Monday Night Football game.

Even if all the women on ESPN weren't butch, she'd still be cute by comparison. She's a bit tom-boyish which I usually don't like, but she is attractive. I guess I won't have any competition from the other male FReepers, haha!

Yep, he was drunk, but thats just Joe. He turned 60 this year. Hope he's around for many more.

I have had the game on and off and missed that interview. But as someone else said the interviewer and the ESPN network director knew he was "feeling no pain" , they set him up and put him on. Interesting that Joe works for ESPN Classic. You would think they would not want to embarrass one of their own employees.
As another said, He is Broadway Joe Namath and as the saying goes, "Never Complain, Never Explain. Case closed.
Joe is still my hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Screw you ESPN.

From this picture, I'm not sure that I would call her a "coyote". She looks pretty cute. Joe's gotta be what, 65?

That is a Bloody Damn lie. His stats may indicate it but I defy anyone with the kind of knees he had to do what he was able to do in a few short years. He took the Jets to the Superbowl and won it. Stick that in your craw!!!!!!

Joe is Broadway Freakin Joe and he earned it too. No ,this was the stupid TV decision makers fault......I couldn't say it any better, my man. I'm having a nostalgia attack about now; the round bed, the llama skin rug, Bachelors III, Earnie Ladd refusing to hit him low and tear his knees up again, "I garrantee you we will win," the Swedish Noxema girl telling him to "take it off, take it all off," in that commercial; I could go on and on and love every minute of it. Those were innocent times compared to today. You could be a rouge and not hurt anyone back then....................

Most overrated QB to ever play the game. I am sure you were an All-American in college and in the NFL Hall of Fame.

He personally guaranteed the win too. The guy had a set of gonads. Joe Willie was one of the best.

I have to blame the interviewer babe for interviewing Joe Willie in the first place.Mea Culpa.
I misread the thread and thought Joe was the interviewer and drunk on the job.
If he was just sitting in the stands watching the game....shame on the TV folks.

most don't remember ole Joe in college. Trust this ole codger,Namath was BETTER in college. I understand he was better because he was a great runner before he hurt his knees. Not many QBs can claim national championships in college and Super Bowl championships. He was also an All-American in college and an All-Pro in the NFL. He may be the best to ever play the game.

I have to blame the interviewer babe for interviewing Joe Willie in the first place. Or not cutting it off with one question after he started rambling ("back to you" would have done it). Also, the director should have been on the ball.
I don't think this will have any lasting damage but it is sad to be an embarrasment for someone who is/was so important to the sport.

Wow, you must go to bed at night with your panty hosed picture of Joey looking down at you while you dream sweet dreams.
Dude, the guy doesnt even make the top 25 list of all time QBs.
You need to get an NFL QB coffee book in your stocking and relax a little. He was a very good QB, but still a drunk.

Ill tell you something Namath could do that I saw with my own eyes that was amazing. He could stand in the back of the end zone, take 3 steps and THROW the football over 80 yard in the air. He had one hell of an arm.
