Last Sunday the nation awoke to the good news that U.S. forces had, at long last, captured Saddam Hussein. The subject dominated all network television programming -- including, of course, the Sunday talk shows. Among the questions everybody seemed to ask were: Now that we've got him, what do we do with him? How is justice to be administered here? The Iraqis, understandably, think they should try him, though they do not have a constitution yet, nor a national legal system. Others -- Iran and Kuwait, for instance -- have their own scores to settle. And many believe that Saddam should be charged with war crimes before an international court.

Straight from the Dean/Kerry playbook.

"Taking Saddam to the International Criminal Court not only would signal a change in the tone of American foreign policy, it might begin to heal the wounds in our relationship with the U.N. Security Council and with its members." Piss on the wounds of the U.N. Security Council. That is as much "healing" as they deserve.

Doh! I almost forgot. Piss on Walter Cronkite too!
To: Enterprise
What "International Criminal Court?" The U.S. recognizes no such body. What part about that don't you understand, Walter?

"Taking Saddam to the International Criminal Court not only would signal a change in the tone of American foreign policy, it might begin to heal the wounds in our relationship with the U.N. Security Council and with its members."Cronkite wants to "mend fences" with the UN while nobody else gives a rat's behind about the stinking UN. Why on God's green earth is the United States even still IN the stinking, worthless UN?? Dump the thing, already....!
And why do some people not understand, twenty-five years later, what the word "retirement" means?
To: NativeNewYorker
Walter Cronkite has nothing newsworthy to say about anything. He is a grumpy old liberal that has eaten way too many "happy" mushrooms.
To: NativeNewYorker
Cronkite -- STILL the hate America internationalist socialist...
Screw him...

"Uncle Walter" obviously still doesn't understand that "debating societies" are not the same as criminal courts.

The Iraqis, understandably, think they should try him, though they do not have a constitution yet, nor a national legal system. We had no constutution when we decided to oppose the King of Engalad.
That picture of Cronkite on his boat with the Clintons says it all. I think it was at John Kennedy, Jr.'s funeral at sea.

That picture of Cronkite on his boat with the Clintons says it all. I think it was at John Kennedy, Jr.'s funeral at sea. Actually, it was WORSE than that...if I remember correctly, the infamous boat ride was on the restoration vacation after Clinton admitted to lying in his deposition.

Walter Globalist Cronkite just can't stop bashing the U.S. and praising the U.N.

Cronkite you stupid old socialist. My brother saw him in the '60s making an on-the-spot donation to Students for a Democratic Society (S.D.S.), a whacko, pinko, ultra-Leftist campus group of traitors.
These people can never repent, they don't have it in 'em.

It might even persuade such powers as France and Germany to join in the effort to reconstruct Iraq, Powers? Walter still thinks he's reporting on WWII. Besides, why would we have to persuade a 'power' who was begging for a contract in the first place?
It might also begin to restore our badly damaged reputation within the community of nations.
First off, screw the 'community of nations'. I think some in the community are starting to understand our reputation, eh Mr. Kadafi?

Most experts agree that we are not going to be able to bring our occupation of Iraq to a satisfactory conclusion until we internationalize the custodianship of the country. Only your experts believe that, Walter. Mine don't.
There are only two earthly authorities qualified to judge Saddam Hussein. The one that captured him and the one who suffered at his hands -- the U.S. military or the Iraqi people.
Both are perfectly capable of administering justice. A third party is not necessary.
Next case.

Archie Bunker would lift a buttock cheek to salute ol' Walter. Since Archie's gesture speaks volumes to me, I'll settle for his eloquent opinion.

Walter Cronkite: A chance to mend fencesSo who tore the fences down originally? Why should we have to rebuild what France, Germany, and Russia destroyed? Let them come crawling to us begging forgiveness. We're magnanimous. We'll forgive those jerks. Just let'em ask.
To: NativeNewYorker
Cronkite is so yesterday. Or perhaps so last week.
Before he can spew his bile against President Bush, our president has moved on to even bigger and better things.
Take Qadiffi, Mr. Cronkite.
Take James Baker, Mr. Cronkite.
Take the French, the Russians and the Germans, agreeing to restructure Iraqi debt, Mr. Cronkite.
Why does anyone even bother to publish anything coming from the "rectal retrieval system" of that old gasbag?
