Democracy Radio, in partnership with the nation’s largest independent syndicator - Jones Radio Networks, is pleased to announce that progressive talk show host Ed Schultz will begin airing his new nationally syndicated show on Monday, January 5th 2004. Ed is aggressive, well researched and opinionated. And until recently, Ed Schultz was best known as the familiar, progressive voice of talk radio at KFGO in Fargo, N.D. But since announcing his affiliation with Democracy Radio, Inc., Schultz has begun to emerge as the new, progressive voice in national talk radio.

Schultz is an award-winning talent, programmer and radio manager with more than 20 years of radio and TV experience. He is considered one of the most accomplished media personalities in the history of the Dakotas and the Midwest.

For over 10 years, Schultz has been delivering compelling talk-radio in Fargo, N.D., through his popular morning talk show, “News and Views” – where he is the No. 1 broadcaster on the No. 1 talk radio station in America as defined by audience share.

The show reaches into seven states and provides news on a national level along with caller interaction and commentary. With a reputation for challenging the issues, Schultz is regarded as “the high profile broadcaster of the upper Midwest.”

For his work on KFGO-Fargo, Schultz has won numerous prestigious awards in the radio industry including the *Peabody and the Marconi. In addition to “News and Views,” Ed offers regular sports news, commentary and is the football play-by-play announcer for the University of North Dakota.

Schultz holds the one-season NCAA college football passing record as a quarterback for Moorhead State University (now Minnesota State University-Moorhead) and is a former quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. Schultz and his wife, Wendy, live in Fargo. They have 6 children.

* Omitted from the article is the information that KFGO radio -- the station where he works (worked) -- won a Peabody for their news coverage of the 1997 Red River Floods.

"His" Marconi awards were given in 1997 for "Station of the Year by Format" and "Station of the Year by Market Size." Again, awarded to KFGO.

While I'm relieved he's not another stand-up commedian turned pundit, I predict "Special Ed's" radio show may someday have as many listeners as Rush has stations.

Your comments are welcome.

I'm told by people that live in the area that he broadcasts from that at least one local station has already dumped his show due to tanking ratings.

He's got a tough job when the main of the facts are against the left's views and policies. If he allows debate, he will help our cause as the facts are aired....

I give him 3-6 months.

Janet Robert's failed attempt in the Minneapolis area lasted 2 days.

Progressive? What, it costs more to listen depending upon your income? the program gets progressively worse the longer you listen? the ratings get progressively worse as time goes on? What is this word progressive as used by the RATs?

What kind of sponsors will 'democrat' radio attract? NippleRings.com, A.N.S.W.E.R., Sierra Club, Birkenstocks, PETA....

That's hysterical. I'd never even thought of the sponsors they'd attract. PeTA is out because Schultz is a hunter. :(

Ed Schultz will not last a year, His problem is that he basis his show on the same lies the Democrats tell everyday. There are no facts to back up his rhetoric, so that makes him just another angry liberal blowhard

Precisely my thought. He's making the jump from Fargo, where the station equipment is wood-burning, to the national big time? The only person ever to make such a leap successfully was Tom Bodette, who jumped from Alaska to become the national spokesman for Super 8 Motels.

Somehow, I don't think "Special Ed" will be that successful. Given his nickname, does he commute to the studio on a "short bus"?

where he is the No. 1 broadcaster on the No. 1 talk radio station in America as defined by audience share

It's pretty funny that they had to invent such a statistic in order to make him look like he's a big deal. The meaning of that little tidbit is that there are simply not many media outlets in the universe that is used for measuring his audience share. In other words, he is a big fish in a small pond.

BTW, let's all say "Hi Ed" - you just know that he's going to be reading this thread sooner or later in order to inflate his ego and to find some juicy quotes from all of those evil conservatives who feel threatened by the mere notion that he exists (ha ha!).

""Station of the Year by Market Size." Again, awarded to KFGO."

By market size, they are referring to the Fargo radio market which ranks at #220.

KFGO is a 5,000 watt directional class B radio station. We're talkin' pretty near the bottom of the old radio bucket.

Yep, as long as we spell his name right, it's publicity.

If CNN, CBS, NBC, NPR, MSNBC, ABC, Hollywood, Time, Newsweek, and 98% of this nation's newspaper, can't produce a "Rush" type following, what makes you think any liberal can? I mean the airwaves are FLOODED with liberals...it is BECAUSE Rush is an island in the liberal sea that he has the following that he does.

The announcement of the LIBERAL network should be under the heading of:

"What is this word progressive as used by the RATs?"

There are 55 members of Congress in the Progressive Caucus who support socialist programs and tactics.

If you check out their names, you will find the Progressive Caucus also includes Nancy Pelosi of California, who is the Democrat Leader in the House of Representatives.

The Caucus leadership includes three other California Democrats, Barbara Lee, Lynn Woolsey and Hilda Solis; as well as Peter DeFazio of Oregon, Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Illinois, Major Owens of New York and Bernie Sanders who, according to his official House biography, is “a Socialist elected as an independent since 1990 but treated as a Democrat in the House.

Simply put, "progressive" means enemy of America.
