Stirring Candidate--Ed Powell--NC-5th

FIFTH DISTRICT REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE ED POWELL TODAY CONDEMNED THE CENTRAL AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT (CAFTA)

Winston-Salem, NC – Republican 5th District Congressional candidate Ed Powell announced today that he is absolutely opposed to the newly announced Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).

Powell said, “We should have learned our lesson from NAFTA and the awful Chinese experiment that the only people who win in these trade agreements are the Wall Street chieftains who have sold the Fifth District workers down the river in the textile and furniture industry. These big-time Wall Streeters, who have one of their own running in the Fifth District Republican primary, are only interested in the well-being of their few greedy executives, and they could care less about our industries, our cities and towns and our people. “

“It’s time we stood up to the greed and corruption that has permeated our traditional manufacturing industries all across our nation, and particularly in North Carolina. These new executives want to make the product anywhere in the world they can, get their huge stock options, run up the price of the stock, and sell it all for huge profits and bonuses before the company goes under. Our people are left without jobs, and our families are left without a future.”

“It is absolutely ludicrous for Jay Helvey to be running Madison Avenue commercials complaining about the problem when he was part of these Wall Street back room boys for his entire career prior to bankrupting his own company and moving back here from New York.”

“What we need is a Congressman who has the conservative backbone to stand up for what’s right and good for our people in the Fifth District – someone who has been here for his entire lifetime and truly cares about what is happening to our country. That is why I am running for Congress and why my message is really gaining such broad acceptance among the conservative Republicans all across the Fifth District.”

I have had the chance to see this man speak and he is phenomenal. He really knows the issues and has past legislative experience. He has my vote in the Republican primary.

Just curious....

An Ed Powell was my husband's college buddy at Georgie Tech...um, quite a few years ago.

Any chance it could be the same?....he's from the Carolinas.

How old is this guy?

Ed Powell is actually a UNC Chapel graduate and a Wake Forest Law graduate. He is in his early 60's, I believe.

Also, CAFTA is not the right thing to do. How has NAFTA turned out? We can't make the same mistake twice. I agree with 99% of what Bush says, but this is not a wise move.
