Republican presidential nominees 2008

Posted on 12/19/2003 2:58:48 AM PST by Reader of news

I think President Bush will be re-elected next year surely. Nevertheless, there is not any sure candidate for Republican presidential nomination in 2008. I think John McCain, Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Condoleezza Rice, George Pataki and Bill Frist may be candidates.

Rudy Giuliani will never be elected president. In the age of television, a candidate simply will not win unless he's got a full head of hair.

I think he can compensate for his hair loss with his adorable “Sthufferin’ Sthuckatash” lisp.

I'd like to see Tom Ridge with Condi Rice as VP.

You know, it scares me when this kind of thinking starts to become the norm on a politically conservative forum. If our guys are starting to think this way than what on earth are not as plugged in Republican/Conservatives going to think like?

I haven't read anything about her abortion stand. So this might effect one issue Repubs.

Why are the pro-life voters always the ones that are pointed to and called single-issue voters like it was a derogatory thing?

Everyone is a single-issue voter at some point. Would you vote for someone who believed down the line like you but was in favor of raising taxes? If so then you also are a single-issue voter.

I really believe Santorum should take the jump - an election between him and the Beast would give this country the truest choice about its direction.

Unless we could be sure Ridge would nominate conservative judges (what's his record in PA?), what reason would conservatives have to vote for him?

Come on, you know that they'll start trying to frighten us with whoever is on the democratic ticket.

I think those of you who think the Pubbies are going to nominate a pro-abortion candidate in '08 (Rudy, Arnold, Condi, Powell, McCain, etc.) are kidding yourselves. The way the primaries work, it simply cannot happen unless the Pubbies have an absolute death wish.

Don't get me wrong - they would love to do so, but the tide of history is going in the opposite direction. Even Bush would have loved to have had Ridge as his VP rather than Cheney (to try and deliver the Rust Belt), until his polling showed it would hurt more than help.

More and more people are equating Roe v. Wade with Dred Scott, and I don't see that changing. It's just a matter of time...

Bush values loyalty very much. I'd be surprised if he got rid of Cheney.

Just admit that you picked her because she's a black woman. That, and only that, is what has interested you in her.

So true. We saw this same racially motivated bigotry when Collin Powell was testing the waters, but he at least had some minimal executive experience. I've never met a Condi supporter who knew her position on more than three issues. It simply doesn't matter to them. This type of behavior is just as racist as supporting a candidate solely because he or she is white.

We're just brainstorming here. No need to be melodramatic.

Anyway, I changed my mind. Bill Owens and Condi as VP are my pick.

One more thought ... you don't realize what influence America has until you're standing in a typical hotel registraition line, but it's in Singapore ... and the hulking German Speaking National checking in is communicating with the pretty Chinese Speaking National res clerk ... in ENGLISH!!!! LOL

It is true. Note to all you xenophobes: there's a Sri Lankan in Bolivia talking English right now!

You can't stop America. American freedom and prosperity is built on commerce. The language of commerce is English.

You can go to the worst barrio in Sao Paulo, knock on a door ... and the first three guys who didn't hack you to death found the fourth person who ... SPEAKS ENGLISH.

We're not victims! Merry Christmas all!

but most Republicans will not vote for him simply on the abortion issue. He is pro-choice.

And a gun-grabber.

Wait a minute. Victory is not a sure thing next year. Didn't 2000 teach anybody anything? These kind of threads are the best example of putting the cart ahead of the horse.

Add Rudy Guilliani and Tom Ridge to your list. Also, DO NOT TAKE PRESIDENT BUSH'S REELECTION FOR GRANTED. OVER-CONFIDENCE IS DANGEROUS TO OUR CHANCES.
