Umoja (unity) Kujichagulia (self-determination) Ujima (collective work and responsibility) Ujamaa (cooperative economics) Nia (purpose) Kuumba (creativity) Imani (faith)

East Germany used to celebrate the same principals.

It's a holiday created by a man who killed black people.

I know of a small handful of people who celebrate it outright, blissfully ignorant of the history behind it.

Of course, most of THOSE are people who would sooner see me killed for my views as well...

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

The greeting card manufacturers celebrate it. Particularly HALLMARK, famous for backing the "made for sheep-TV" smear job on Ronnie & Nancy.

Well...............

I don't know about kwanzaa....................

There is a holiday celebrated by WhiteGuys.............

We call it HappyHourDay.

It has a rich tradition going back several years..............

We celebrate it numerous times each year, it occurs on the last work day before any of "other" holidays.

WhiteGuys from around the world gather at bars and taverns to celebrate their culture and enjoy the traditions of sucking beer and chowing wings instead of working.

This coming Tuesday is the next observance of HappyHourDay.......I'm think I'll celebrate at BW3 on Bethel Rd.

I just wish my boss would stop oppressing me over my faith......

He doesn't understand the importance of HappyHourDay to my people.

Swahili is a East African dialect which was foreign to most slaves since they came from West Africa. Oh well, I suppose it makes as much sense as the rest of the holiday.

"Black Art must be for the people, by the people and from the people," writes Karenga. "That is to say, it must be functional, collective and committing."

Oy.

"Collective" art? I never encountered this term in art school.

It must be "functional"? What is this hack trying to say, that black artists must only engage in crafts? Pottery, textiles, basketweaving, stuff like that? Stuff that everyone HAD to produce out of necessity, before the industrial revolution? Because that's the future he envisions, or what?

"Committing"? To a (his) cause, I suppose.

Karenga is also well-known for his commitment to Black cultural nationalism. In his essay "Black Cultural Nationalism" Karenga explains that, "Black art, like everything else in the Black community, must respond positively to the reality of revolution" (Gayle, The Black Aesthetic).

Ah. Black artists must produce "black art". They must not dare to paint a landscape or still life or anything else that does not bludgeon the viewer instantly with Black Identity Politics.

It's hard enough to be an artist without idiots like Karenga trying to put new chains on you.

Kwanza is celebrated by dozens (ok, maybe not that many) of far left wing liberals around the country.

it must be functional, collective and committing

Functional -- it must be useful in a political sense: it must serve the Revolution's aims.
Collective -- it must focus on the masses: in order to serve the Revolution's aims.
Committing -- there is one central goal in life: serving the Revolution's aims.

The Festivus Pole

Not a tree, a pole. No decorations. Tinsel is very distracting from the true meaning of the holiday. The pole is tall, silver, hollow, long, skinny, and heavy.

Kwanzaa is hate.

It's was created by a professor in southern california on fraudlent cultural principles, designed to "de-whitetise chrimas" according to Al Sharpton in the NY Times.

Well, the Brits celebrate the first day of Kwanzaa, but not because it's Kwanzaa - it's Boxing Day.

I celebrate it because it's my birfday. I'm thinking of calling it brewcrewzaapalooza.
