If the Democrats introduce anything resembling a formal impeachment proceeding, they're going to dig their grave even deeper. That may be true but I do not think that will stop them. Think about it..what do they have to lose? I think they will try it.

Heard the first breathless attack on the Bush administration early this morning. The rest of the day, the news led off with everything BUT the blame Bush story.
My guess was that they got their head handed to them for the gross misrepresentation.
Once again, the media in their rush to attack the President, went too far.

Matthews ended his 'chat' with the widow.......so it seems the problem was at the top......and she agreed.
The woman was beyond dense. Suggested that we should have known immediately it was a terror attack so everyone could have been evacuated from the second tower. That Rumsfeld would have not sat in the Pentagon for another 25 minutes after the towers were hit, and the president wouldn't have been sitting in a classroom in Florida for half an hour. That we all should have been TOLD.........
This woman is so dumb that it makes my hair hurt. No logic to her spiel at all.

"The problem was systemic. In fact, it was codified."I was there and saw a lot. If any agency of the US governement should get the blame it is the Headquarters clowns at FBI. The terrorists operated, planned, and trained right under the FBI's noses. Headquarters ignored and even punished the agents who were trying to report the terrorism problem.

Kean offered slick willie a venue for a NJ rally while he was campaigning against the first President Bush.
Slick willie promised Kean he would be the secretary of education.
Of course, slick willie lied, but he did give Kean some other no show job in his administration.

Why only Impeach him? If what they are saying is true W should be charged with treason. Saying 9/11 was preventable is like saying Peal Harbor was preventable.

The impeachment did not backfire. It showed the entire world that the demonrats stood for no morals, no truth, no integrity whatsoever. Do you think for one moment that rally professing Clinton the best president of all time really helped the demonrats?

If false charges are to be leveled at Bush you can bet that the facts of mistakes Clinton made will be then brought to light. No doubt Clinton FUBARed our intelligence services. But stretching that into blaming Clinton for 9/11 is ridiculous, even when the party of idiots is blaming Bush for it. They do have a trump card in that phony game - 9/11 happened on Bush's watch.
By the line of logic used here, Reagan is more to blame than anyone. He let terrorists run the Marines out of Beirut, traded arms for hostages with Iran, dropped bombs up Khadafi's camel's butt, etc. Or what about Carter? Sulking in the Rose Garden rather than pummeling Tehran. Bush is exactly on the right track in the War on Terror. But, had 9/11 not happened, would he be any different than his predecessors? From a pragmatic point, it doesn't matter. We are now on the right track.
You are right about what is important. What is important is that intelligence must learn from its mistakes, agencies must communicate better, and the Executive Branch must execute effertive policy. If we want to start blaming Presidents rather than terrorists, there's plenty of false "blame" to go around.

I have no doubt Clinton bungled everything he touched with it, but I also suspect more could've been done under Bush. I'm not nearly as concerned about the political angles as some seem to be. In fact, I don't give a ratt's butt about the political gain or damage to Bush. I care about doing whatever's necessary to protect the population of the USA. And I care about the TRUTH of what happened.

Lawrence O'Donnell also said with scientific certainty there was no connection between SH and 9/11. For a reporter, he doesn't do a good job at all in keeping up with the news. We FReepers are better informed than 99% of the idiot talking heads on TV.

Plus she kept harping on something in 1996, but had concluded that the Bush administration should have prevented it.
To his credit, Matthews asked her point blank what she would have done as president to prevent the attack. She said "Warn the public" that we were under an imminent threat from airplanes, and when the first plane hit people would have known it was not an accident.
That is patently absurd. First, nobody knew we were under imminent attack, especially in that form. If President Bush had said such a thing I would have wondered what was he trying to pull with such an outlandish sci-fi movie scenario being presented as a realistic threat. And this poor widow (I DO feel terrible for her, but I'm still angry with her for what she is doing) would have lead the parade, no doubt, to deem President Bush seeking to fear-monger by casting fear into the public in order to enact un-Constitutional restrictions on our rights as citizens.

The impeachment did not backfire. It did politically, in that we lost seats in Congress afterward. Republicans were certainly not rewarded for the impeachment.
If anything, it turned us against ourselves blaming certain other Republicans for not doing a good enough job. Never mind that the Democrats would have prevented Clinton's removal no matter what we did.
I agree that we scored a moral victory, but the only ones clapping were Republicans, and not even all of them.

He demanded she name what act of war Saddam had ever perpetrated against the U.S.
Peggy didn't come up with a good response to this vicious line of questioning by Mathews. An easy answer would have been the attempted assassination on Bush 41. But the premise of the question is false. As a sovereign country we do not have have to an act of war perpetrated against us to act in our own security.
