Aztlan backers see Hussein capture hoax (Chicano Fascist Alert)

A Mexican-American separatist website, La Voz de Aztlan, is claiming the U.S. capture of Saddam Hussein is a hoax.

The pro-Arab and viciously anti-Israeli organization also sees a spontaneous uprising of popular support for Hussein throughout Iraq – a phenomenon unnoticed by news organizations throughout the world, including those in Arab countries.

According to the site, "extreme doubts have arisen throughout Islam that the released pictures by U.S. occupation forces of the 'captured Saddam' are of the Iraqi leader. Thousands of Iraqis, who knew Saddam, are claiming that it is one of Saddam's many known 'doubles.'"

Why would an American-based website produced by Mexican-Americans be so committed to the legacy of Saddam Hussein?

The Aztlan movement, which calls for the creation of a separate, Spanish-speaking state in North America out of much of the Southwest, gets its inspiration from Yasser Arafat's Palestinian statehood movement.

La Voz de Aztlan, or the Voice of Aztlan, called the capture of Hussein the "mother of all hoaxes."

Its website identifies Mexicans in the U.S. as "America's Palestinians." Many Mexicans see themselves as part of a transnational ethnic group known as "La Raza" – the race. A May editorial on the website, with a dateline of "Los Angeles, Alta California," declares that "both La Raza and the Palestinians have been displaced by invaders that have utilized military means to conquer and occupy our territories."

Hussein, the group's captive hero, meanwhile, paid some $35 million in aid to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

According to a survey conducted in June 2002, a healthy majority of Mexicans claim that their country rightfully owns much of the southwestern United States, while most Americans believe Washington should adopt stricter immigration standards and deploy U.S. troops along the border. The Zogby International poll found a majority of Mexicans say the U.S. Southwest "rightfully belongs to Mexico," and that Mexican citizens should be able to come into those areas freely, without U.S. permission. The poll found that 58 percent of Mexicans agree with the statement, "The territory of the United States' Southwest rightfully belongs to Mexico." Zogby said 28 percent disagreed, while another 14 percent said they weren't sure.

Activists who quite literally see themselves as "America's Palestinians" are gearing up a movement to carve out of the southwestern United States – a region including all of Bush's home state of Texas – a sovereign Hispanic state called the Republica del Norte.

"There are great similarities between the political and economic condition of the Palestinians in occupied Palestine and that of La Raza in the southwest United States," explains an editorial in La Voz de Aztlan in Los Angeles, the city seen as the future capital of the new Hispanic state – much like Jerusalem is seen by Palestinian Arabs as their capital.

The editorial goes on to draw analogies between the Arab uprising in Israel and gang violence in Los Angeles. It's the same thing, the activists claim. This is not crime and punishment, according to La Raza activists, this is the birth of an independence movement by young Hispanics.

"The similarities are many," says the editorial. "The takeover of our respective lands by foreign elements occurred 100 years apart. For La Raza, it happened in 1848 when Mexico lost the southwest at the end of the Mexican-American War and the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. For the Palestinians, it occurred in 1948 when the Zionist Jewish People's Council gathered at the Tel Aviv Museum and signed the 'Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel' on the day in which the British Mandate over Palestine expired."

Wait and see - "Aztlan" will become America's "Palestine."

This is incredible. All these separatist groups are hysterical. These people would not survive without modern day civilization but they want to go back to some romanticized 'Azatlan Empire'. It's not what it appears to be in a Disney cartoon movie.

Well, then we'll just have to send the U.S. Army back to Mexico City, and force them to transfer the REST of Mexico to us.

"(Chicano Fascist Alert)"

Says it all.

There's no real, fundimental difference between fascism, communism and socialism. In fact, anarchists are nothing but socialists. They're ALL Democrat/Democrat/Democrat/Democrats of a feather

Forget the ideology. These are simply rabid racists glomming onto whatever theory gives their racism a veneer of legitimacy. The whole Atzlan thing is just a cover. It takes all of 30 seconds to debunk it completely.

These people are basically just Mexican Nazis. Nothing more.

*** I knew one neo nazi skinhead. One was enough. I had friends in Mecha, they were not friends for long. They're all the same.

You really don't want most of Mexico or its population. I say we take Baja California and send its population back to Mexico proper. Maybe take a more here and there, but most of it, let them keep it. Just put up a secure border fence.

La Voz clearly has its feet firmly planted in thin air.

I knew several of the founders of MeChA at Santa Barbara almost 35 years ago. A couple of them were decent (but thoroughly misguided), most were thugs.

Best MeChA moment: at the 1970 MeChA picnic on Cinco de Mayo, a number of the leaders were talking about solidarity with the black revolutionary movement. The brother of one of the leaders, home on leave from the Army, looks at his brother over his can of Tecate and says: "Bulls***! I been in 'Nam with the [n-word] and the gringos, out hump'n the boonies an' gettin' shot at. I'm tellin you, an' you listen to me lil' bro', I'll take the whites any time. You can't trust the [n-word] to have your back, a gringo you been working with says he's got your back, he's gonna cover it or die tryin'. So don't give me any of this revolution Bulls***!"

I could name names on this conversation, but won't.

The Mecha types I've known really think black people are scum. They're worse than a lot of white people I know whose comments about black people are prejudiced but are way more open to REASON than these people. I completely believe your quotations because I've heard about the same thing.

Please they attach some mythical, lofty status to white skin. They're the worst offenders when coming to color prejudice! I had long discussion with my boyfriend about apartheid South Africa, and Mecha would put any suid-afrikaans baas to shame.

MEChA has nothing to do with La Voz de Aztlan. You could even call them enemies.

I've dealt with many Mechistas and about 95% are not as radical as they are believed to be.

In conversation with a former Mechista, they expel any person with speratist agendas.

Not likely. A group with the slogan "For The Race, Everything; For Those Outside the Race, Nothing" is by definition quite comfortable with a separatist agenda. It cannot be otherwise.

And perhaps the 'former Mechista' was lying. Not that Leftists would ever lie about their true agendas when they discover how nearly universally rejected their ideas really are ....

Are you the South African? or is he?

South Africa is one of the great minor tragedies of the 20th century (minor only in the sense of being of less moment than WWI, WWII and the fall of Boshevism). It was a real pity the Afrikaaners became so rigid with apartheid, as I think the die was cast right after WWII. A different system could have perpetuated white control and built a more tolerant situation that brought the blacks and coloureds into the modern world, and broken the tribal ties that have proved so deadly to civilization there and throughout Africa. I've known a number of South Africans, both English and Afrikaaner, and liked them all (except for Martin Legasick, the radical leftwing historian).

"For The Race, Everything; For Those Outside the Race, Nothing" is not Mecha's slogan.

The official slogan is "unity creates power" or "La union hacee la fuerza".

It may seem that I may be a MEChA apologetic, but I've just done my homework on them.

The "Por La Raza" slogan came from El Plan de Aztlan, which was a document created over 30 years ago. You can still find it on most MEChA sites.

My question to them is if they claim to not have separatists ideals, then why keep a document that does?

I'll see what I can dig up.
