They said he was paranoid schizophrenic. There is no cure for that, no matter what anyone says. The medications don't work very well or for very long. The woman who drowned her children in the bathtub in Texas had the same problem.
I have a family member who has the same problem and has been treated for it for 44 years, and he has never gotten better. The best they've been able to do for him was sedate him heavily. He has tried to kill people four times. The fourth time they finally took him to court and the judge said "there, there you have to take your medicine".
I don't care what they say, there is no cure in traditional psychiatry. The medicines and talk therapy do not work. These people just get scooted around from place to place and the families have to deal with it with no help.
My relative is locked up now, permanently until the end of his life in a nursing home. Unsupervised visits are not a good idea for anyone who has ever been violent with this illness.

That's fair enough, I was not saying that he is cured. Just that IF in fact he had a true mental disease that he is now cured from, then good for him.

All I can say is, that I'm sure Jim Brady would like to have unsupervised walks in the park and a home life. I'm a big gun right supporter and all, but I know the Brady (and the Reagan) family are against it and rightly so. What is scary is if John Hinckley ever sees "Contact" while surfing and goes bonkers over Jody Foster. I know his parents are elderly, and I know there are many elderly people who are still very fast and strong, but can they handle him if he goes ape? This is a bad move, if he has to be let out on visits at all, a strong man from the hospital should go with him or at least a constable.

I didn't think he was sick then. I don't think he is cured now.

Who next, Charles Manson...?

After considering this Hinckley release, I had the very same thought. This is big-time utterly beyond ridiculous, letting him out.

This is an insult to the American people.

It's like giving children razor blades to play with. Makes one wonder what someone who does that wants to happen.
