It Doesn't Fly

Fox News just showed, live, the attempted centenial flight of the replica of the Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk in North Carolina. With an audience of dignitaries in the stands, including President Bush, a smattering of astronauts, and John Travolta watching, the flight was a failure.
After great difficulty in getting the engines running, the reproduction flyer came down the wooden runway, got its nose up just before the end of the wooden rail it was to launch from. But then it reached the end with its tail still dragging, and dropped unceremoniously into a puddle.
I'm willing to wager that that 30-second clip of the flight that never got off the ground will be a staple of late-night comedy and political ads for years to come. We just got to see the Dean campaign for President, to pick an examole not entirely at random.
He will get his nose up (gain the nomination), but shortly thereafter will be nose down in a puddle (the general election). LOL. Choose your own examples of what this flight that never was, is an example of.

The first flight wasn't much beyond that.

Well, we can't launch men to the moon anymore, either. Some days the Isuzu won't start. Some days even the tires won't hold air.

Looks like the skid hit water on the rail which must have slowed it some.

And to think, on Junkyard Wars they built a flyer in less than 24 hours and it flew.

The Wright Brothers waited weeks for the correct conditions for their flight.
Unfortunately, the re-enactment was selected for a historic DATE.
