Prayer Request for 9 yr old girl
self
Posted on 12/17/2003 9:07:19 AM PST by TMD
Please offer prayers for my friends 9 yr old daughter. She has been suffering the effects of Stevens Johnson syndrome since April 2002 and is having a very difficult time breathing. (See original prayer request http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/665591/posts?page=1,50)
It all started with an allergic reaction to over the counter Children's Ibuprofen. She is now blind, has a tracheotomy, a feeding tube, is on a portable ventilator and bi-pap machine and in a wheelchair. Her lungs look like an 80 year old with emphysema. She is not a candidate for a lung transplant (though her mom offered) because of her trachetomy and her fragile health. Her mom says "If she could only breathe, we could deal with all the other issues".
She is alive today because of her stubborness and the extraordinary support of her parents. They are basically running an ICU room in their home. She is the smartest kid in her class, having made up all her missed school work for the year. She learned braille in 6 months when her parents were told it would take 2 years. She does double/triple digit arithmetic in her head. The whole family has been on a roller coaster ride since this began.
She is currently having extreme difficulty breathing and her parents have started hospice care for her. She has good days and bad but the bad ones are getting more and more frequent. Please hug your kids and say a prayer for this beautiful little girl.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that nothing escapes Your notice. You know this beloved child best ... You see her struggle and You see the efforts of her parents ... we cannot know the why of any of this, but we can trust, for Your word reveals that in Your hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Breathe into her tortured lungs Your very breath, Creator God ... man has decreed that nothing can be done for her. Continue to encourage her indomitable spirit, for she speaks to Your blessing in the midst of strife. We set her before the Throne of Grace and ask that Your mercy would continually surround her and her beloved family, in the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

How terribly heartbreaking. There is nothing worse than watching a child, especially one that you love more than anything, suffer knowing that there is nothing that you can do to help them. I can only imagine how awful this is for the parents and family.
As a parent of a 10 year old, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach just thinking about this tragedy. I pray that God will grant healing, strength, and peace to this girl and bring comfort to all involved.
