HI!
Concerning diabetes and low-carb diets - have you heard of Dr. Richard Bernstein? He has a wonderful book "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution" - He was an engineer who contracted diabetes in the 1940's (before home test kits) and devised a diet to help his health. THEN he went back to medical school because most doctors/nutritionists wouldn't give his plan a try. Now he is a well respected doctor in New York and everyone else who had diabetes when he first did is no longer alive - he is alive and well.
Check out his web-site www.diabetes-normalsugars.com
My dh has lost 7 pounds in just a few days - his readings are much better..... we are hoping this is the answer for him....
Good Luck to you!!

Yep. I have Dr. Bernstein's book. It is soooo very restrictive, tho. But, it was the first place that I learned about diet and diabetes med needs.
I think Bernstein in certainly right, but I recognize I can't live that way the rest of my life. Come on - no onions??? I go with SouthBeach and am losing slowing but surely. I am on thyroid meds, which slows things down, but isn't an impossible hurdle.
As I told my endo the other day, the ADA should be ashamed of itself for supporting a diet that, I think, is detrimental to diabetics. There is nothing they could tell me about nutrition for diabetics that I would be willing to believe.
Good luck to your husband.
