Yep. I have Dr. Bernstein's book. It is soooo very restrictive, tho. But, it was the first place that I learned about diet and diabetes med needs.

I think Bernstein in certainly right, but I recognize I can't live that way the rest of my life. Come on - no onions??? I go with SouthBeach and am losing slowing but surely. I am on thyroid meds, which slows things down, but isn't an impossible hurdle.

As I told my endo the other day, the ADA should be ashamed of itself for supporting a diet that, I think, is detrimental to diabetics. There is nothing they could tell me about nutrition for diabetics that I would be willing to believe.

Good luck to your husband.

Well.... After going to his web-site - there are several there who are doing a combination of Atkins/Bernstein.. it is all new to us.... but I agree it is daunting.

My dh was started by his Dr. on the typical diet recommended by the ADA and GAINED 20 lbs. He already needed to lose about 80 (now 100) so this was a very depressing result. Having lost 7 lbs so quickly - he is now encouraged.... he also has high blood pressure and very bad sleep apnea due to weight.....
I'll watch for your here and hope to hear good news...
