Another plus we should now reap from snagging the Iraqi monster is the chilling message that his capture has got to be sending to the terrorist mastermind who still remains our main enemy in terms of national security: Osama bin Laden a far more dangerous rat who's hiding in a deeper hole in the ground, reportedly somewhere in the Pakistani mountains. Now hear this, Osama: When you become No. 1 on Uncle Sam's Most Wanted list, sooner or later you are toast. There is no place to run, no place to hide, no hole deep enough. Have no doubt that we will keep hunting for you, too, until we bag you. Right on!

Welcome back to the "bandwagon" Mr. Hackworth. I'm sure you are not purchasing a seat but merely renting it.

he's dead jim!
sorry i had to be the first to do it today

Hackworth was against taking Saddam out.
He said our troops weren't ready.
Hackworth hasn't been right on much in quite awhile.
I think Osama went down a rat hole never to return.

I should also add that Hackworth demanded that we were bringing in the wrong equipment for the war...
Another miss...

But we got Saddam primarily because of good grunt work rather than any input from Washington or L. Paul Bremer's team in Baghdad Sheesh, talk about stating the obvious. Bremer's job is administration, and how could one expect anyone in D.C. to find him?

UBL was either spread across the rocky walls of a cave at Tora Bora by a thermobaric bomb or he got very lucky that day and has now expired from renal failure. I lean toward the first.

Binny babe is alive and well and living in Pakistan. What would be nice to see is Pakistan allowing some of our "special" forces to go and take him out and whatever scum that is protecting him.
Might be time to start being more friendly with India.

Seeing photos of the styrofoam square that covered the spiderhole, I couldn't help but think Saddam should have inverted it when he went below...with the rope handles facing him underneath. Dumbass!

A retired Spec. Ops officer still "connected" said the same thing the other day. In fact, he "hears" Binny is being protected by Pakistan Intelligence in that country. Time to put Pakistan's feet to the fire.

I'm sure you are not purchasing a seat but merely renting it. Considering that the general premise is "it's amazing we were able to pull it off, considering how badly things are screwed up", I'm not sure he's even really renting it. More like trying it out and discovering that he still doesn't like it.

Not a prayer. No way can a case be made that the now-notorious hidey-hole was Guerrilla Command Central. The highly decentralized guerrilla war not only will surely continue, it might even increase in tempo and violence during the next several months as the insurgents make their bloody point that Saddam was far from a major player in their strategy and day-to-day tactical operations.
Quite true. If the situation were reversed, one would not have a significant military impact by capturing President Bush. To be sure, he would be a tremendous symbolic target, but President Bush is the vision guy; he's not the military planning and execution guy.
After Bush's capture, were the shoe on the other foot, one would imagine that Gen Abizaid, Gen Brown, Gen Odierno, etc. would be the critical issue regarding the continuation of military efforts.
The capture of Al Dhouri would be a parallel. We need to collect the Iraqi military generals and intelligence chief. My guess is that Saddam was somewhat in the loop on their whereabouts. Saddam would have been a symbol for those guys, too, so they would need him in a "reach out and touch" relationship.
