And for the hawks, even the recognition that the Europeans enjoy significant leverage over US foreign policy is very bad news indeed.

I prefer the hawkish position relative to the French!

Let me see. President Bush takes a job that belongs to the dovish state Department and gives it to Gulf War I hawk Jim Baker and that his supposed to be a slap at fellow Hawk Cheney and Powell.

What a load of crap.

Bush just took an important job away from the dovish state department and gave it to the ultimate TEXAS HAWK!!

The man that is losing out it Colin Powell.

...whose last mission was to secure all of Florida's electoral votes for George W in 2000 regardless of the state's actual voting laws or how people actually voted...

Some people still cannot accept the fact that George Bush won legally despite massive voter fraud and an attempted end-run around the law by Al Gore and the DNC.

The return of Baker - long-time consiglieri to the Bush family whose last mission was to secure all of Florida's electoral votes for George W in 2000 regardless of the state's actual voting laws or how people actually voted - made an already bad week for administration hawks much, much worse.

Why is this BS even posted?

I think this article is utter crap. Jim Baker is the Frank Nitti of the Bush Administration - seeing "the enforcer" coming must scare the living s**t out of either the democrats or the French. Vice President Cheney strikes me as the wise consiglieri. Both men have vital and complementary roles to play and Dubya seems to know exactly when and how to use them.

Baker, the master diplomatic puppeteer of the first Gulf War

Uhhhhh, somebody help me out here ... is Mr Lobe implying that the Bush Administration is like the mafia? That George W. Bush was not legally elected? That the sinister Jim Baker has nefarious control over the gullible Bush's?

I love unbiased reporting. Know where I can git me some?

Baker is the ultimate Arab stooge. Why not just install the Saudi despot in the WH? Baker is no hawk; he played a major role in the failure of Gulf War I. He also botched George Bush Sr.'s relection. If G.W. Bush thinks Baker is going to help his re-election, then he is stupider than a log. Baker is the kiss of death.

And finally, Vice President Dick Cheney will have been sternly warned by his doctors that his chronic heart problems make his participation in a rigorous re-election battle simply out of the question and that he will have to take himself off the ticket for the sake of his own survival, if not for that of his deeply concerned family members.

OK I made it passed this piece of political stupidity

The return of Baker - long-time consiglieri to the Bush family whose last mission was to secure all of Florida's electoral votes for George W in 2000 regardless of the state's actual voting laws or how people actually voted -

But couldn't stomach anymore after this .....

Jim Lobe is a piece of debris. Calling James A. Baker the 3rd a consiglieri? Talk about false monikers......(Bill Clintons sycophantic Sidney Blumenthal OWNS the trademark on the word Consigliere.) Jim Baker and his Law firm were just a hell of alot smarter than The Gore campaign's David "Mr. Anti-trust" Boies was, "in following the rules as stated in Florida Law" Mr. Lobe, and someday you'll get over it. In 2000 The Supreme Court of the USA wrote in a decision that there were "......constitutional problems with the recount ordered by the Florida Supreme Court......." Case Closed. Have a good day Mr Lobe.
