WASHINGTON -- Former President Clinton praised the capture of Saddam Hussein and said the ousted Iraqi president finally will answer "for decades of tyranny and murder."
"I am glad he was captured alive so he can be brought before the bar of justice," Clinton said Sunday in a statement.
Clinton saluted U.S. troops, who found the bearded and disheveled former dictator in an underground hide-out on a farm near his hometown, Tikrit. Clinton also congratulated his successor in the White House.
"Saddam Hussein's capture is a tribute to the skill and bravery of our troops and the good work of our intelligence officers," Clinton said. "I know President Bush is very proud of our troops today. I congratulate him and them."
Clinton, who ordered bombing and missile strikes against Iraqi targets in the 1990s, said he hoped the seizure would help bring more stability to the country.

Privately Clinton thought, "My God, this means they can still catch me"

All this good news means Bush will whoop the Dem nominee in '04 and his [Clinton's] wife won't have to face him [Bush] in '08.

"Saddam Hussein's capture is a tribute to the skill and bravery of our troops and the good work of our intelligence officers," Clinton said. "I know President Bush is very proud of our troops today. I congratulate him and them."Okay. I think I know what's up. I think Hillary is ensuring a Democratic defeat in 2004 so she can run in 2008.
So, Bill Clinton is going to jump in with Zell Miller and back Bush for 2004. Hillary will stay Democratic on the surface, but she'll work behind-the-scenes to destroy Dean (or whoever runs).
Anyone want to wager on this?

Yep, I believe you're correct. "Political posturing" is the operative phrase.
To: Rennes Templar
Since Hillary was there very recently and met with the troops, did Bill credit her with setting up Saddam's capture?

I wouldn't be surprised to see him back Lieberman after this. He does owe Lieberman at least one immense quid for the impeachment quo. It also helps him in his fight for primacy in the Democrat party with his two major rivals - Al Gore and Hillary.

Nope, they force someone else to dig a canyon for them.

LOL. Same Clinton who held Ritter back on key raids b/c Clinton wanted to keep Iraq at a steady simmer, to turn up to a boil when he needed a distraction from his latest domestic accident (premature, no doubt).

"Clinton saluted U.S. troops.." OK troops, whats is protocol on this matter. Can he (as an x-prez)salute and who rescinds the salute? I would kick him in the !#X*%&^#! when his arm has up to prevent any further predatory intentions from the crooked one.

This was mearly editorializing by the author. Bill Clinton has no honor. He never once saluted , in earnest, in his 8 years as Molester-in-Chief.

That's what I thought too. I would like to find out what Marines on his detail thought of him either having him saluting or not. Truly, twenty years down the road we will look back at him and wish we could of really sunk him for good. Oh posterity, what will the PC textbook history revisionist portray him as?

Actually Bill Clinton was pivital in my decision to make the military a 20 year career.
There was know way I was gonna hang My retirment certificate on MY wall with his signature on it!

If he saluted the troops, it is the most vacuous gesture he's ever performed. He's no longer CinC, and at Andrews, on Pres. Bush's Inauguration Day, when BillyBobBoy just couldn't bear to leave DC, he "reviewed the troops" but had been told that according to protocol, he was NOT to salute them, and he didn't. But he did hold them and members of his Cabinet in a cold hangar at Andrews for hours, until he finally decided to leave. For New York, where he gave another press conference when he landed. Man, this guy was hanging onto the trappings of the Presidency for as long as possible. It still burns me that he gets SS protection for life. And his shrew. Luggage carriers, and drivers. That's what they are to them.
