I think it indicates Freepers, by and large, are courageous,honest people, willing to open up with their fellows and offer help,support or even a sounding board.

Freepers are hardly the moral weaklings our counterparts on the Left are.Sometimes we do fall, and sometimes, sadly, we don't get up as quickly as we should or could.
Trapped's loss is a sadness and a lesson for us all. If we,any of us, find ourselves down,m we can turn to the friends we've made here. Most of us will go beyond a damn screen to help.

I have not had alot of experience with that nor known alot of people with that affliction. That is a whole different thing I suppose. It's tragic.

Thank God my Christian counselor didn't think like you. He knew better than you or me that my brain needed medicines to help it out. Just as a broken leg needs crutches or imperfect vision needs glasses. Do you wear glasses or eye contacts? If you do, where's your faith, man?

Many people are able to pick themselves up by the bootstraps and get on with it. But as my counselor explained to me at the time of my crash-n-burn, my bootstraps were broke. The Body of Christ is supposed to be helping the weaker ones out, not kicking them when they're down.

I tried... but I couldn't embrace the "total abstinance" of AA or NA. That "yee-haw... let's get it on!!!" state of mind has always been with me and total abstinance made me feel even more split.

Now..I acknowledge the addict in me.. have even come to love her. For she is the part of me that screams to the heavens when the shit starts to fly... "F**K YOU!! You'll never take me down!!!!"

A note to all non-depressives reading this thread:

Regardless of how you view depression, if you know someone who is or may be
clinically depressed, love them unconditionally.

Absolutely, positively, 100% of the time.   No exceptions.

As a depressive, I have never met a non-depressive who can really understand
depression's hell.   Depression can be extremely difficult to escape and your
unqualified love may be a significant part of a depressive's lifeline.

Also, I believe that those left behind by someone who passes on by his own hand
should not blame themselves. Depression can be brutally powerful and often
near-impossible to recognize.

My sincere prayers to TILH and his family.   May TILH rest in peace.

Yet, it could be that the gene pools have evolved bringing forth modern day illnesses or weaknesses that were not prevelant in earlier times.
You do know that depression and suicide were problems for settlers who crossed the Great Plains in the 1800s? You do know that a number of women who settled in the plains back then committed suicide over the long winters? Depression isn't new. Record-keeping and data bases are what's new.
