I'm sorry to have to report that one of our own Freepers, TrappedInLiberalHell, has passed away. His profile is HERE
I met Chris this past summer and found him to be a brilliant young man, who unfortunately carried around a lot of painful psychological troubles. He wrote few posts here, but was an active and clever noter, and a very sweet young man.
R.I.P., Chris van Loon

Oh, no. I've read all the posts in this long thread, and what could I hope to add?
I exchanged FReepmail with Chris and looked at his website when I came back from overseas. I sent the website url on to my brother the liberal (an avid gardener) who exchanged some email with him.
My brother the liberal is planning to vote for W. I dunno what role, if any, Chris played in that, but I would like to think he did. Chris's decency and rapier wit can't be replaced, and there will be a hole here in FR where he was.
To Chris's friends and family, may God give you the strength for these trying times. God bless you; and may He have mercy on Chris's soul.
He shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary him, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember him.
RIP Chris Van Loon, Trapped In Liberal Hell no longer.

Thank you for the wonderful tribute to Chris. This thread has been amazing. I never anticipated such response. It does my heart good to see what wonderful humans we have on FR. And I hope that maybe this will provoke some limitations on the flaming and backbiting that occassionaly happens here.
Merry Christmas, 18F!

Well that one blew away the notion Free Republic was a rough place to visit.
I didn't know the Tomato Grower "Chris" but apparently he touched the hearts of many on this forum and in so doing was a valuable member, not only here, but probably in his personal life as well to all those who were lucky enough to have spent any time with him.
He is safe now. Rest now Chris, your worldly battle is over.
That was a wonderful thread to read. Thank you to "Eggs" for starting it.
I just finished reading another sad topic about the young Arizona fella who has signed up for military duty after losing his brother to the fight in Iraq.
Didn't know Freepers were such caring people. I found out on the Christmas Cards and letters to the military thread.
A great buncha softies and loving people here even if they throw me off for writing it! :o)

What makes you say that? About the 90%? Experience. Whenever I find myself sinking lower and lower, I usually realize that there are one or more physical factors to blame, such as lack of sleep, too much junk food, insufficient aerobic exercise, vitamin B deficiency. Exercise is the best remedy for depression, and the best way to prevent it. Just my opinion.

Rest in peace, Chris. I'm sure you have a great big tomato garden up in heaven; can't think of a better place to have one. Condolences to the family.

Nice posts like yours are what makes FR a nice place to return to. Just like any online group etc., there are good threads and bad threads...but that is just like like in the real world. God bless ya...

Thanks for your post. This was/is an amazing thread. I hope that the sentiments here are remembered by all at FreeRepublic. Such an outpouring of humanity here. Chris would be proud.
Happy New Year!

Thanks so much!!! That was a lovely thought you posted too.
I was just about to sign up for the Survivor ping list - I joined the last Survivor one almost at the end of the show and laughed so hard at some of the comments made, I actually enjoyed watching Survivor.
Apart from the goodness of the people here, there are so many I can learn new thoughts and opinions from. It is like a candy store for my empty head!

You're right, Judy. Chris
would be proud...
If only he could see how many people miss him. He always set himself such high standards, and felt like a failure because of this. However, just reading back last night over some of his many responses to various threads here at FR, revealed to me (once again) how witty and insightful he always was.
This truly is an amazing thread, and the tears are falling freely as I look through it again.
Thankyou FReepers - thankyou all, so very much, especially those of you who've FReepmailed me, emailed, or have prayed for Chris's family and I. It's a great comfort indeed.
