I'm sorry to have to report that one of our own Freepers, TrappedInLiberalHell, has passed away. His profile is HERE

I met Chris this past summer and found him to be a brilliant young man, who unfortunately carried around a lot of painful psychological troubles. He wrote few posts here, but was an active and clever noter, and a very sweet young man.

R.I.P., Chris van Loon
b. 3/2/72, d. 12/9/03

I'm sure Salty is wondering where we are

I'm sure Salty is, especially if this is the first time. But two weeks is not the rest of his life. And if this place is worth it's dog biscuits they will see to it he is thrilled to be there next time.

This is the second time - we boarded him with the breeder from whence he came when we went to New Mexico for Christmas '99. But since then, he's not spent the night away from both of us.

I know he'll be fine, probably have the time of his life and get loads of attention and have tons of fun - but it's still hard, y'know?

Good luck - hope he learns well. We have two Yorkies who are 12 years old. One has started attacking the other so we now have to keep them separate. We also are restricted from traveling or even going out of town because boarding has its problems and leaving them outside together is risky. (Last time we boarded them - they were sick for two weeks because of the food and one could not bark for a week because he had laryngitis.

Funny, though - when outside they do better except I doubt that the attackee will go in the room where the other one is. So, we have a little old Yorkie shivering outside if it rains or freezes while we enjoy our out-of-town visit.

Sounded very self-pitying and self-centered in that post. Like a lot of suicidals who don't care who they hurt. Don't mean to sound crass, but as someone even younger than tilh who's recovering from a life-threatening and -altering illness, who actually felt like and was dying, I ultimately don't find much sympathy for people who kill themselves.

I just feel it's an act of ultimate narcissism and selfishness and blowing out of proportions to absurd levels the problems we all face in life.

I pray that you never experience the life-threatening and -altering illness known as clinical depression, then, youngster.

I'm sorry. I just have no words when faced with this sort of attitude.

"I ultimately don't find much sympathy for people who kill themselves."

While I may not disagree with you, I'm not sure this is the thread for airing it...TILH obviously had some issues, and they eventually got the better of him. We can still mourn his loss.

That was a great post. Gotta love the Onion. Especially during those sad days.

My condolences to Chris' wife and loved ones. I shared a few exchanges with him during the MLB playoffs, and as a fellow Yankee fan (and former CT resident) enjoyed the 'chat' greatly. His other postings were quite insightful.

FR is a lesser place without him :(

Fiona, don't take it too much to heart. There are some very hostile people here (not too many, but some) and you can't let them get to you.

Just ignore the negative people and concentrate on all the positive out-pouring of love found on this thread.

As they say, you can't polish a turd.

Just for your information, KangarooJacqui is Chris' widow.

Nice show of compassion there, bud. Way to go. Now go back and play in the sewer where you're welcome.

I understand what you are saying, especially since you value life so dearly. That is a healthy attitude, I think, to not understand how a person could want to take away the life G-d gave them, while others fight to survive horrible illnesses and see every moment as precious. On the other hand, I understand that mental illness is not rational that way, and a healthy attitude is exactly what someone with severe depression doesn't have. Thank G-d for medications, which have helped so many out of depression.

Im going to read Your post whenever Im down again Luke, I feel great today and it still motivated me. Maybe i should read it every monday! I might.

The Churchill story really rang a bell with me. And many of the other posts here have.

Hearing others peoples views on their depression, and lost loved ones, makes me feel so less alone about it now.

This thread has improved my life because the next time I get depressed i will remember or read again the things You individuals have posted here.

And to me its quite a testament the number of people who make it through the valley with Gods help. I hope every one gives Him a chance to help. As well as resist the urge to abandon Him on the mountantop like i have done much too often.

Remember, Freepmail is free, its easy, As others have offerred i will be here till the end if anyone ever needs me too.

One parting thought, There were many posts here that i wanted to respond to even though some were not to me. I bet the same could be said for others here. Your post was important, and likely made a difference in someones life regardless if it recieved a reply.

Ps: Too any depressed lurker too shy too post, feel free to freemail me or others if you dont want to post out here. It helps to just talk sometimes and winter is rough. YOU are not alone.

Oh my...how painful indeed.

Chris and I passed several times, I always took note of his quick wit and intelligence. He will be missed.

Certainly my prayers are with Chris' family during this difficult time. If there's anything I can do...ping away.

"I just feel it's an act of ultimate narcissism and selfishness and blowing out of proportions to absurd levels the problems we all face in life."

Although i would not have posted it here, i dont disagree with the concept. But keep in mind we all face different problems in life. Some people actually have less or more. Thats a fact.

Im glad you pulled through Your illness.

"I ultimately don't find much sympathy for people who kill themselves."

To this day i am still pretty pist at my parents for doing it. My sympathy is for Chris's Wife, Fiona, who reads this thread and is very much alive. Maybe you didnt know that, i hope not.

"Bingo on that for me. It's all in my head . . . it MUST be, since life is otherwise good . . . I should just snap out of it. And then when you don't just snap out of it, you blame yourself for being weak-minded and wimpy, and it gets worse."

Exactly.
