[history]
The White House yesterday said a new immigration review is under way that could lead to amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living and working in the United States.
Confirmation of the review came during a White House briefing, just two days after Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said during a town hall meeting in Miami that the government had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country.

This will be another conservatives/republicans shut up and listen to us we are the republican elite we shall tell you what you want -
Even on this site the bushbots will be shrieking, " So you'd rather see a Democrat as President?" Sigh. If this goes thru I predict an uproar. People are furious about the issue once they look at the facts. Most havn't a clue how much they cost us.

No, I'll tell you what's a frightening picture of America: It's a town where almost no one speaks English, where gangbangers rule the roost, where illegals are the majority population, where America is despised, and where crime is rampant. That is what Cicero, Illinois has become. And that's not in a border state: That is in the very heartland of America. So, you keep right on championing the illegal alien cause, because what happened to Cicero will be coming to a town near you very shortly.
To: ought-six
I am NOT championing illegal immigration. I believe they cost the country FAR more than the contribute. I just don't see how we round up people, detain them, due process then deport them. And what of the children born here. The problem was decades in the making and must be reversed by enforcing our laws for starters. If anyone, legal or illegal breaks the law then they ought to have the hammer fall on them.....heavily.

Im sitting here on my computer reading the posts from all you people and my eyes shed a tear. Yes, i am an immigrant, rather, an "alien" as you call me. Do i look/sound/feel or have anything different from the rest of americans ? ... i do not believe so, yet i am given this title, an alien, someone or rather something, horrible, right out of a hollywood movie. For most of you who have your mind made up about illegal imigrants, i suggest you move on and do not read this post, it will be a waste of your time and energy, however, for those of you who are open minded, i shall continue. My story starts about nine years ago, when i a boy of 14 at the time, was faced by 3 older guys and threatened by them to force my mother into doing something that was not legal. After a few other threats to me and my mother, i was forced to leave school and my mother her job. Then we had to get out of the country and came to US, where we have been ever since. A couple years afterwards we decided that hopefully, US, the nation of freedom, would accept us as citizens. We applied for political assylym and the date for the court came. I believe the judge was like some other people who have a set mind and was questioning my mother, not like a person who has been through a life and death situation, but like a criminal who has commited serious felonies. To make a long story short, the translation had a lot of issues and was a problem, not enough time was allocated to us and we were stamped as not being fit to became citizens. Present day : I quit my job of working with mentally challenged people, because my employment authorization card expired, soon i will be forced to quit college because of lack money, i can not visit a clinic to remove my wisdom teeth for the same reason, and i do not wish to be a burden of this society and pay for me. Im my previous years here i have not done one thing wrong, yet i am not fit to live here. I have lost sight of my country/religion/culture and do not have any more ties with my native country... where am i supposed to go, what am i supposed to do ? why should i quit school (even though i have the intelect and the passion to be one) and forget my dreams of being a doctor, like my mother because i am not allowed to work and save money to go to school ? hundred of questions like this flood on my mind, along with tears. I have done nothing wrong, i have washed your dishes on your restaurants for $4 an hour, cleaned your bathrooms full of vomit and piss on bars, i have taken care of your mentally challenged people for over three years, a job that many americans refuse to do, and when they do so for two weeks at a time. I am not allowed to leave to visit another country, experience something new, board a plane or go on a cruise ship if i wanted. I can not change my past, and i can not weep over it either. I am a modern day prisoner in larger prison for most criminals, but my crime was to escape my death and persecution of my country. I also understand why some americans get upset from the flood of imigrants and why some immigrants choose a different and illegal way of living, but some times they have no other choice. As a conclusion, i did not write this post to make you all feel pitty for me, my family, or any one else. I wrote it with the simple purpose of maybe letting some of you that we do not always wish to travel here and live like animals, disrespected and steped upon, given names and talked about like we are a bunch of rodents that invade this country. It hurts to hear someone say "round em up and ship em outta here" while the everyday life and economy of United States depends in a sense from immigrants. I am not an economist to give you statistics and figures of how much immigration is costing United States, but the fact is that if a person is not allowed to have a job, he will try to find some other way of eating and living. And as you all know, United States is a very large country, where you can hide quite well. I wish you all a merry christmas and express my joy in the capture of a tyrant.

There are many many other countries that allow mass immigration. Try one of them. No one has a right to enter our country just because they feel the need.

For a starter, we need to change the law on "anchor babies." The law should be that if a child is born in America, but its parents are illegal aliens, then the child is also illegal. This foolishness we allow now, where children born here of illegal parents are automatic citizens, and their illegal parents can thus stay, has contributed greatly to the problem we face. It's very telling when we see young girls who are seven, eight, or nine months pregnant waddling across the border just in time to give birth, and then declare "voila!", instant citizenship. Mexico is by far the biggest offender in this regard, and in fact, in every regard when it comes to illegal immigration.
To: ought-six
I agree completely. And as Ridge was saying......we need to resolve the current issues and begin anew. I just shudder to think tht we would rush into a community and start rounding people up.
Perhaps because it has such a frightening connotation to those of us who remember the mass roundups during the second world war....all over europe.
I well remember after world war 2, the comments made by those around me bitterly complaining about the arrival of 'those people' from the camps.
I have to admit, it's hard for me to get beyond my own memories.

... and what makes "those" other countries different and let them allow me enter their country ? will it be because they are COMPLETELY created by imigrants ? Ehh, this is basically a meaningless conversation, because i get the feeling that you dont care about other people. I believe at some point your parents (grandparents or someone down the line) came to this country, and took it from their rightful owners. Does that make you a judge of what happens to other immigrants ? i dont know, but all i know is that most likely we are on the same boat, neither one of us has his/her roots here. Enjoy the holiday season and spread the joy, sincerely.
